a nostalgic look back at my childhood
Asterix the Gaul
In the year 50 BC, Gaul is occupied by the Romans - nearly. But the small village of Asterix and his friends still resists the Roman legions with the aid of their druid's magic potion, which gives superhuman strength. Learning of this potion, a Roman centurion kidnaps the druid to get the secret formula out of him.
A shame that some of the character names were changed. The overly repetitive score grates too. This is still daft fun though, particularly given it focuses on The Romans (who were always my favourites).
Faithful to the first Asterix book to a fault - the big problem being that the comic series took two or three volumes to really get up to speed, meaning this doesn't have the wit or plotting of the later books.
Ein sehr lustiger film und dafür das er so alt ist trotzdem noch gut.
a faithful adaption of the adventures of asterix, the popular french superhero. along with his sidekick obelix, they battle roman invaders who wish to capture the gaul's magic potion.
the animation is low-fi and crude by today's standards, but still effective in telling a coherent story that will entertain all ages. inherent with the setting, political themes are injected, along with some broad cartoon violence, to allow the film to hold up years later.
Funny, entertaining and historically interesting movie.
The first film with our favorite Gaul.
Fun for the whole family.
Viggo liked it better than me.
