...Right. Ok, so I'll be honest. The first time I saw this I thought it was a technological masterpiece and was blown away by what I was watching. I rated it 4 stars.
Now, watching it at home on the small screen, I had to struggle to finish it. I was bored out of my skull. Sure, it is still a feast of well made CGI and innovative technology and I applaud Cameron for it. But he should have thought…

James Cameron's next film is just going to be footage of him squealing with glee, naked, touching himself, in a pile of your hard earned money, on a greenscreen backdrop, in 3D, mocking you for spending so much cash to see his hokey movies. You'll love it and it will break all kinds of records and James Cameron will then buy the moon.

Dammit, I'm starting to feel like this film's fickle mistress.
The first time I watched this I rated it four stars, the second time I wasn't that generous.
Yesterday my mate wanted to show off his 'I'm single and have too much money' TV and decided to do that by screening Avatar. I was not exactly bursting at the seems with enthusiasm.
Still something funny happened. Going in and knowing I felt the story to be bland and predictable I…

Everything is backwards now, like out there is the true world, and in here is the dream.
-Jake SullyLet's get this out of the way up front. I'm a big James Cameron fan and you can look at my embarrassing love letter to him in the form of a Titanic Review here. I think it's brave of myself to even draw attention to it again. I understand why some people don't like his films, or simply don't like certain…

Every film in existence derives from one of four different premises:
- Man vs. Man (or Woman ... A.K.A. - love story / "hero/villain" story)
- Man vs. Nature/Society (War, Battle, etc.)
- Man vs. The Unknown (Supernatural, Mystery, etc.)
- Man vs. Himself ("Coming-of Age" story)All stories will fit into one of those four premises, and will be told a million times over, and a million times more after that in a variety of different ways ... everyone…

I wish James Cameron would make other people's scripts, or at least realize he can't do everything and hire someone to help with his crappy screenplays. He puts amazing images up on the screen and makes bank at the box office, but until he gets a great story his movies are just going to be good pop-corn flicks. It's really sad that for all the money spent (and the amazing technology created) they couldn't have just had someone sit down and give the script a good once over.
5+ = 3D, motion capture, rendering — 1 = "story"
