With a strong Bergman influence, namely from Fanny & Alexander, Gabriel Axel creates a feature that highlights its delicious looking meal as well as it does the characters eating the meal. With a sharp dose of comedy, as well as the harrowing story of the titular character, the largely plotless Babette's Feast is a beautiful study of characters and life in a late 1800's Danish village.

Esta cocinera francesa que alegra la vida a las austeras señoras danesas es realmente una delicia.

"Babette's Feast" is a great film. A strange mix of Scandinavian drama and food fetish showcase. All of it wonderful. Along with "Cinema Paradiso" and "La Femme Nikita", it was one of the rare foreign films that could be found at most video rental stores back in the day.

I don't think I've been this hungry after a movie in a while.

Babette’s Feast proves a beguiling, charming and beautifully constructed exploration of human nature, religion and the significance of food within the community. A poignant, thoughtful and highly rewarding piece of cinema.
