Not as good as I remembered it being. Tea Leoni did some serious damage to this movie.

I can't even remember how long ago it was that I purchased this box set (which also contains the sequel) but it's been sitting under the television in the 'To Watch' pile for far too long so I figured it was due time for a little revisit. Bad Boys is a no-brainer buddy cop film directed by Michael Bay, who gets quite a lot of unfair criticism. The realm of cinema is wide and all-encompassing with plenty of room for…

Bay's debut subjects the world to a more entertaining vision of the fast-edits and smash-it-up style that is now far, far too commonplace.

One of the very few really good Michael Bay movies. Will Smith and Martin Lawrence have fantastic chemistry together, as you fully believe their life-long friends and partners, and the back and forth between them is a lot of fun. The dialogue is often very funny, and unlike a lot of Michael Bay movies, the humor is actually funny, and never feels forced, neither does the tone feel inconsistent, or unbalanced. And while the characters are cliched, they're likeable, and…

Can't decide whether to get a new cat and name it Mike Lowery, or just start calling the big cat Mike Lowery because fuck The Wire[1], this is real police.

[1] No, don't actually fuck The Wire[2]. My big cat is named McNulty.
[2] Especially if you have that big boxed set with all the seasons - Amazon user reviews indicate that the packaging is pretty flimsy and probably[3] wouldn't hold up to any kind of jamming action that any serious jamoisseur would consider even remotely satisfying.
[3] Never explicitly stated in any of the user reviews, oddly enough.

I can distinctly remember trying to convince myself at the age of 14 that I liked this movie, because it seemed like the sort of thing I *should* like -- big action, wise-cracking cops, dudes shooting other dudes in slow-motion. But even at that age I knew in my heart of hearts that this thing was a dud; and it looks even worse now, not even Michael Bay bad, but Michael-Bay-doing-Tony-Scott-doing-Bruckheimer-and-Simpson-bad. The plot makes no sense whatsoever (why can't they…

I feel really dirty guys. Really dirty. I need to watch a Bresson movie right now. I've just finished watching transformers three and bad boys. For some reason I needed to do it. Let me explain...

I loved Michael Bay when I was a young teenager. I used to stay up late and watch Bad Boys quietly while my family was sleeping. I first started to figure out what a director was because of his movies. I mean I owned…

Will Smith and Martin Lawrence's chemistry manages to carry an otherwise-formulaic story and make it pretty damn entertaining.
