Infinitely better than that whole Dark Knight malarkey.

I'd like to personally thank AdamMcA for recommending me this film. I really liked it. For those unaware, this film is a series of 6 Batman related vignettes set to different styles of animation. I enjoyed all the stories, but my favorite would have to be Working Through Pain. It loses itself somewhere near the end, but Working Through Pain for the most part is handled to near perfection. It deals with Bruce Wayne battling his inner demons while also showing us again why it sucks to be Batman. Again, all of the stories were interesting, fascinating, dark, gritty and exciting. Also, Kevin Conroy proves once again why he is the best actor to ever voice Batman. All in all, this was a really great film in terms of action and story-wise.

A solid collection of anime short films spanning the gap between Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. Voice acting is top-notch, and so is the writing and art, which includes several very impressive sequences of stylized graphic-novel action. “Have I Got A Story For You”, “Crossfire”, and “Deadshot” are standouts, while “Working Through Pain” is the weakest of the series, in my opinion. All in all, this is well worth checking out if you’re a Batman fan (like yours truly). Take the MPAA rating seriously, though: there’s a lot of heavy, mature subject matter and the violence is generally rough. Animation does not a kid’s movie make.
Rated PG-13 for Stylized violence, and some bloody images. Recommended for ages 13+.

Nearly unwatchable.
Yeah yeah, someone at DC saw The Animatrix and said "let's do that with Batman!" Well, fuck whoever that was. I see what they attempted to accomplish, but it was a failed experiment.
On second though, that makes no sense at all. This was suppose to bridge Batman Begins and Dark Knight? Which parts are those? Why do I see Killer Kroc? Shouldn't Scarecrow look more like he did in Begins?
I think someone at WB or DC knew this didn't work, but did their best to salvage it with Kevin Conroy. If it wasn't for the fantastic voice cast, I would have shut this off within minutes.

And so I conclude my run through the Batman animations that Lovefilm have temporarily made available for free streaming as a Dark Knight Rises tie-in.
This is patterned after The Animatrix, except the short films are a little longer, there aren't as many of them, the animation styles are less varied and ambitious, and it's generally not as good.
It's a good idea in principle: we all know that good things can come from varying how the character is portrayed, the Batman: Black and White comics thrived on short vignettes with distinctive looks, and Batman and Japanese creators have mixed well in the past.
But unfortunately I found most of these short films disappointing compared to Batman: The Animated Series…

a series of six interlocking stories, the last one being the best. its batman in a manga world. The short dead-shot story steals it. while the Japanese styled animation provides a refreshing look to batman

For the past half century Batman has undergone dozens of creative reconstructions and visions. In this film, we see how a team of anime artists tackles the caped crusader. The results are a fascinatingly interesting array of scary, powerful, dark images with a story not nearly as strong. With a fragmented narrative this becomes nothing but an exercise...albeit a fun one to watch for Dark Knight fans.

A bit too mishy-mashy for my liking. It felt more like a filler project, than a feature which has been given a lot of care and attention, like other animated features.
Some interesting graphics and styles, but not all the stories hold up and feel lacklustre, wanting more.

Quite possibly some of the best Batman stories I've ever seen.

Nothing groundbreaking, but an interesting mix of unique takes on Batman. There's some nice animation in this.

I love Kevin Conroy's work as the voice of Batman, but the problem with using such a classic voice is that it only fits one type of Batman. The voice is more distraction than seemless when Bruce Wayne looks like a 20 year old.

Hit and miss short stories.

Superb.

The look is all wrong for Batman, and doesn't really work. The stories are of variable quality, with the last two being the best.
