Battlestar Galactica: The Plan
They have a plan!
When the initial Cylon attack against the Twelve Colonies fails to achieve complete extermination of human life as planned, twin Number Ones (Cavils) embedded on Galactica and Caprica must improvise to destroy the human survivors.
A Tale of Two Cavils
There are a few BSG entries that stand out as particularly unloved by fans - Black Market, The Woman King, and this, a nearly 2 hour movie released after the completion of the series to explain away "The Plan" referred to in the opening credits of the first 2 seasons. A number of people were upset about this plan being forgotten as the series progressed, and I'm not one of them. I'm all in favor of the writers deciding to change course when they come across new angles they find more interesting. There's something to be said about letting your series grow organically.
The Plan is essentially a well crafted piece of retconning, filling in…
Pointless ad-on to the Tv series
Despite the pleasing familiarity in the performances from the regular cast we didnt need a 110 min extra to confirm there wasn't really much of a plan. Everyone had figured that out ages ago. For hardcore fan's only
A Review Haiku
Too much confusion.
Ancient Jimi built Cylons.
In his watchtower.
While i did enjoy this film, i have to say i expected a little more. Yes, it is helpful in answering some questions from the series, but why was Pesident Laura Roslin completely missing from this? I don't think they even mention her once? I thought that was very odd. Overall though most fans of the series will find at least some things they'll like about this film
After finishing the outstanding final season of “Battlestar Galactica” which has now become one of my all-time favourite shows, up in the air with “Breaking Bad” & “The X-Files” I had to check out the lately add-on two hour special called The Plan.
From the first two seasons, every opening episode featured the tagline “They have a plan!” this highlights key events from the opposite side being the sleeper agents and the Cylon attack against the Twelve Colonies and there plan to destroy all survivors left.
This serves has a bonus chapter that we never saw, explaining some plot holes that were never answered with the show, I feel that hardcore fans will enjoy this special and something to enjoy after…
Definitlely an exercise in retconning, but I liked the fleshing out of Boomer and Cavill. Definitely good to watch before seeing the final episodes of the series.
Unless you have seen the entire BSG series from start to finish (except perhaps “Razor”), I suggest NOT watching this. It tells the Cylon side of the story from prior to the invasion of the colonies up to the end of the first season or so, but it won’t make much sense to anyone who doesn’t know how the entire series begins and ends. On the other hand, if you are a BSG junkie (like moi), this is must-see material. It works because Olmos directed, and he knows the saga better than the writers. So much fun to see old friends again, and some of the CG animation is just superb.
The most confusing part of this, was that I it appeared to me that the Cylons didn't really have a plan, so much as numerous failed attempts at creating one? It was fun to fill in the cracks and revisit old moments, but this didn't really do it for me.
