It's half term so me and my wife are letting my eldest stay up and watch a film a night and we started with Big.
Great films have this power that even if your watched it many times in the past, when you watch it with someone that has never seen it, you realise why you're seen it so many times.

They don't make them like this any more and that's a real crime.

One of those films that makes you wish you were a kid again.

In an age when the comedy genre seems to be a contest to see who can add the most swearing or crass jokes sometimes you have to watch a classic to gain some perspective. Big is so big hearted it almost slickly at times, the movie relies on genuine humor and likeable characters. However Big has it drawbacks it is a little drawn out and the plot gets pretty ridiculous. However Big is a warm fuzzy movie that isn't wrapped up in trying to be cool. its big on laughs but even bigger on heart.

I actually really enjoyed this. Tom Hanks made it feel believable on some strange level. There are some really off putting moments between Hanks character and adults but they tend to play up the comedic aspect.

Barely remembered this film from seeing it years ago, pretty magical.

This is one of those movies that I feel is just sort of ingrained permanently in my memory because it was on TV CONSTANTLY. It helps that the movie itself is good too, but I can't even tell you how many times I saw that scene where Tom Hanks and Elizabeth Perkins are jumping on the trampoline.

I'd heard people mention Big as a favourite before, but I usually assumed it was a childhood favourite. Someone convinced me to watch it recently, and I'm glad they did. I consistently forget that the 1980s were a great time for popular American movies, and now I can add Big to a group that includes Back to the Future, Die Hard, and Romancing the Stone.
I was dreading watching it in the early going, with the child acting quickly setting off my alarms. But the film quickly launches into its central premise and the pace never eases from there. It's a propulsive, efficiently crafted movie that knows just when to slow down a little and let its scenes breathe.

It's apparently 80's rewatch weekend with my wife. First ET now Big. This blew me away with its charm and wit and genuine affection for life and love and the pains of being young the first time I watched it and every time since then. This time was no exception. It's been years since I've seen it but watching it with my wife (who'd never seen it before) was a great new experience. Reminds you how awesome Tom Hanks was/can be/sometimes still is.
