During the Second World War, Eugene enlists in the US Army during the last year of the War and is sent to basic training in Biloxi Mississippi. There he must live with a variety of fellow soldiers while enduring the whims of a mentally unstable drill sergeant.
Sentiment rules. Heartfelt, but gloopy. Matthew Broderick and the rest of the cast are fine, but no one really shines through the nostalgia. Mike Nichols' direction is unusually restrained.
Saw this in the theater. Fairly funny.
Liked this. Nice little movie, not much happens but its a good watch.
Christopher Walken is great as the army sargeant.
Lowest stakes war-film ever.
