This movie has damn near everything I want in a film, but not enough of it. The music is exceptional, but the ending is a bit anticlimactic. Regardless, the puppet effects and music put this far above many other films from the time and if you have a love for 80s metal as I do, you can't allow yourself to miss this exceptional display of love for the genre.

Halloween Times: Film #25
This is the 2nd or 3rd time I've watched Black Roses within this last year, cause it's that fucking good! I am going to make a weekend out of watching "Heavy Metal Horror" very soon.
I know of Rock 'n Roll Nightmare, Trick or Treat (the 1986 film), The Gate and this film, does anyone have suggestions for me?

Goofy 80s horror film with cheesy rubber puppet effects about demons from Hell who start a bad hair-metal band in order to hypnotize unsuspecting teenagers. The hilarious scene of a possessed stereo speaker eating the father of one of the teens is worth the price of admission alone.

I love the effects in this in that the demons look right out of the Renaissance paintings of hell. I love this movie as a piece of 80's cheese, but it doesn't hold up as well as it should.

I almost feel like I should apologize for liking this as much as I did, but fuck it. It doesn't come close to matching the sheer madness and hilarity of Rock 'N Roll Nightmare, but it's fun all in its own right. The idea is solid, playing on the fears of parents thinking rock and roll was poisoning the minds of their kids (I was a little kid during the glam rock era...they really thought this fruity shit was frightening?), but this is such a bargain-basement production that any sort of message flies right out of the window and you're left laughing at all of the awful acting, make-up and rubber puppets. Although there might be something to their music being evil, I can't get the one song out of my friggin' head.

John Fasano unleashes another rock 'n roll nightmare on the video world with Black Roses. When the titular band books a series of shows in small town Canada, the old people try to ban the concerts while the young rebel to attend. But soon the demonic rock music has influence on them and all the 35+ year old high school kids are turning their backs on their futures and killing those around them.
Cheap, poorly structured, and featuring the typical Fasano craptacular special effects and creatures, Black Roses is to horror cinema what Dokken is to metal: cheesy and fun, despite being incredibly lame. A notch about Rock 'n Roll Nightmare but still pretty terrible.
