Bridge to Terabithia
2007 Directed by Gabor Csupo
Synopsis
Close your eyes, but keep your mind wide open.
Jesse Aarons trained all summer to become the fastest runner in school, so he's very upset when newcomer Leslie Burke outruns him and everyone else. Despite this and other differences, including that she's rich, he's poor, and she's a city girl, he's a country boy, the two become fast friends. Together, they create Terabithia, a land of monsters, trolls, ogres, and giants and rule as king and queen. This friendship helps Jess cope with the tragedy that makes him realize what Leslie taught him.

Film 3 of the Adapted April Challenge
This film really took me by surprise. It wasn't what I was expecting at all and I'm kind of torn about that.
I was expecting something along the same lines as The Spiderwick Chronicles and that isn't what this is.
Beyond that, I don't want to give any hints. I just want to say that it is a really well written film with some impressive performances and a very honest, very affecting story.
Definitely recommended.

The focus is not on the monsters/special effects, they're simply the backdrop of a wonderful movie about friendship. I thought I knew what to expect, but it was much better. Amazing actors all around, too!

What a surprise. Mr 8 saw an ad for this on Sky, so we sat down to watch it together.
Fantastic wee movie. Not knowing what to expect, I presumed it would be a regular kids' fantasy flick. It's that, and so much more.

I remember watching this and then I was called for tea. A few years passed and I never got round to watching the rest. I probably would of never of watched it again if it weren't for the Adapted April Challenge. Not exactly happy I saw it but I was a good film overall.
I wasn't really that engaged with the film but when the "incident" happened, (don't want to spoil it) I actually sat up, and to be honest it was pretty sad.
One thing I did like about this film was the fact Zooey Deschanel was in it. Man, I would love her as a teacher. But there's a part where she asks her student (the main character) to go to museum with her, just the two of them. I'm pretty sure if it was the real world there would be consequences. But I wouldn't mind if Zooey Deschanel asked to go to the museum with me!

I have no idea why I watched this just now. Surprisingly, it was actually quite good.
I skipped over this when it was first released because it looked like a cgi heavy, fantasy story about a forest land made up by some kids. What it actually is about, is a story more focused on childhood relationships, whether it be with friends, parents or bullies, which surprisingly gets rather deep.
Not an amazing film but definitely enjoyable and interesting.

It's probably the 3rd or 4th time I see this, but it was on TV this morning, and I had to see it again. I just love the film. So moving and heart-warming. It manages to present its magical world, but still keeping its feet on the ground. Great performances from all the cast, including the young leads, Josh Hutcherson and AnnaSophia Robb. This is one that always gets me teary-eyed and this time was no exception. Aside of a couple of clumsily executed musical montages, fully recommended.
