A much debated and hyped film featuring a bi-sexual love affair between two ranch hands Ennis (Heath Ledger) and Jack (Jake Gyllenhal) who at the same time ary trying to juggle their complicated home life with the women they claim to love.
It's a beautifully filmed story that explore the emotional connection between two people who have strong feelings for eachother, but also in a society that wouldn't accept their decision, they must hide it at great cost to themselves…

I tinker with my list of all time favourite movies on a semi-regular basis and every time I do I find it difficult to decide which of my favourite movies belongs in the number one position. Trying to decide whether Brokeback Mountain is a better film than Once Upon a Time in Anatolia or any other movie in my top ten is almost redundant because I love them all, but somehow Brokeback Mountain finds itself in that number one spot almost every time.

This is one of the greatest love stories ever told. I have seen this film countless times and after this rewatch I have decided to make this the only film I have ever given 5 stars on Letterboxd.

I'm not extremely familiar with Ang Lee, but after this and Life of Pi I'm finding my generally strong auteurist views on films challenged. How the same person can helm something as important, brutal, honest and beautiful as this, and something like Life of Pi which is the opposite - shallow, trite, glossy and naive - amazes me. I loved this film, but the jury is still well out on Lee the director (the other I've seen of his, Hulk,…

Known to most simply as “the gay cowboy movie,” Brokeback Mountain is often overlooked for its moving look at a doomed love. Ennis Del Mar (Heath Ledger, in an Oscar nominated performance of startling subtlety and depth) is your standard stoic cowboy. Jack Twist (Jake Gyllenhaal, who got a supporting actor nomination) is a rodeo rider looking to have a good time. When the two take jobs as herders on the slopes of the titular mountain for a summer, they…
