I've seen this movie dozens of times — starting when I was about 10-years-old — so my perception is completely warped. Now that I have some distance from my relationship with it, I think I can gauge what is and isn't good about it. (No I can't.)
The story of a nerd who rents the head cheerleader to be his girlfriend for a month is a pretty great idea for a teen movie. It's a little bit Pygmalion, it's a little bit Cinderella, but with a role reversal and a dark undercurrent involving the fact that she is essentially whoring herself out to him. The film has a hard time dealing with some of the cheesier aspects that are necessary…

Out of all the teen films I think I just found my favourite. Patrick Dempsey who plays the main character is pretty darn good at his role. As a geek he's very weird, nerdy, quiet, but as a popular guy he's way hot and has an awesome "dushbag" quality.
It's pretty crazy how much a person can change just by putting on some shades and a leather jacket. But is it worth it? He was a geek for a reason. He liked video games and astronomy, he had his own personality. So what if nobody noticed him? At least he had passion for something other than ~banging chicks~.

I have seen this movie so very many times. I can't even rate it fairly because it's become a part of my soul. I was that geeky kid in the late 80's early 90's who wished he could be popular.
Others will see a cheesy 80's teen rom-com with pretty girls and a cast too old for the roles. Me, I see my high school life as I lived it and as I wished it could be.

This has that undeniable '80s charm going, and despite some storyflaws - there are more heart and smart to counter that;
a likeable enough cast as well (except S.Green; it's obvious from this that he's always been an annoying little prick) makes this an enjoyable '80s teen flick.

Filme clássico da Sessão da Tarde, não lembrava muito bem da história. Somente de pedaços. É bom ver esses clássicos de vez em quando, é um filme simples que remete a uma fase difícil, a adolescência.
No geral, diverte bastante.

Pretty decent movie, about a geek misfit who becomes mr.popular. it's funny. I want to punch baby Seth green in the face , but besides that I enjoyed this film. Go ahead and watch it

Dempsey is such a dork in this but in a good way. Peterson is fantastic and I never knew why he career never went anywhere. And look out for an a very young Seth Green: he is hilarious here.
It's a great story about falling in love and being popular, and really how neither matter to each other. The music is great too. And under-rated gem for sure.

Sometimes we revisit the eighties and it's fun and jolly and everybody has a good time, whether you're laughing at how silly we used to be or how silly certain occurrences are. And sometimes, laughter just isn't an option.

Worth watching, if only for the young Patrick Dempsey. Cuter than a puppy with a hat.
