Cape Fear
1991 Directed by Martin Scorsese
Synopsis
Sam Bowden is a small-town corporate attorney. Max Cady is a tattooed, cigar-smoking, bible-quoting, psychotic rapist. What do they have in common? Fourteen years, ago Sam was a public defender assigned to Max Cady's rape trial, and he made a serious error: he hid a document from his illiterate client that could have gotten him acquitted. Now, the cagey, bibliophile Cady has been released, and he intends to teach Sam Bowden and his family a thing or two about loss.

-Max CadyWas there a better actor/director pairing? The short answer is no. Scorsese tapped into the very best De Niro could offer and vice versa.
Travis Bickle was a hopeless romantic who fancied himself a nice guy. A dreamer with delusions of grandeur- a mental handicap, still frightening and with an unpredictable streak of madness that not even he could quantify. The be-all-end-all element of genius in De Niro's portrayal of Bickle is this exact push into madness that occurs in the end, where even Bickle himself has mentally checked out, unable to comprehend the depths he has reached. It's in his eyes. He's "finished" the same way Daniel Plainview was.

I know this is a remake from 1962, that I didn't seen, so I can't compare both but I really enjoyed this!
It's an horror/thriller full of suspense. Addresses many themes like sex, hate, violence, religion and the differences between social classes.
Robert De Niro as Max Cady is just creepy, he really makes us fear him. Another great performance from him. Nick Nolte, Jessica Lange and Juliette Lewis are also very great. The haunting theme during the whole film helped to increase the fear.
Scorsese always can give us a film where we are stuck until the final credits. -
De Niro is a beast. One of his most fun performances full of insane energy.
The ever present score is a highlight, ominous, bombastic at times, always wonderful. The best thing about the movie, though, is Martin Scorsese's brilliant camera work. It's all over the place. Quick cuts, zooms, pans, tilts upside down and what have you.

Robert De Niro has never been so creepy. At first I didn't think he would suit the role and was angry that Scorsese couldn't use a different actor for a change, but by the end I was terrified by him. The film itself is a lot more intense then I thought it would have been and some scenes are quite brutal. It really is pure madness, but that's why it's so good. Juliette Lewis is also great.

The December Challenge: Film 23
Director - Martin Scorsese
Writer - Wesley Strick
Cast - Robert De Niro, Nick Nolte, Jessica Lange, Juliette Lewis, Joe Don Baker, Robert Mitchum and Gregory PeckMy only real knowledge of Cape Fear comes from the classic Simpsons episode, ‘Cape Feare’, in which Sideshow Bob tracks the Simpson family down and attempts to kill Bart aboard a houseboat, only to be foiled by Bart’s final wish; that Bob sing the entire score of the H.M.S. Pinafore. I knew that the 1962 original was considered a classic psychological thriller and I also knew that many people considered Scorsese’s 1991 remake to be the superior of the two adaptations (both versions take their inspiration from…

cape fear: deniro unleashed. don't let my rating fool you -- scorsese's remake is completely off the rails and genuinely worth watching for the sheer madness of it all. the remake's choice to make the protagonist and his family abrasive and morally compromised primes you to crave mayhem. bizarrely captivating.

Not my favorite Scorsese, but the cast is pretty amazing. The score is just above and beyond.

Wow. Blown away by this. Scorsese is in such a playful mood throughout.

It had been a few years since I last watched Martin Scorcese's Cape Fear, but I recalled that I didn't absolutely love it. Upon a second viewing, I still don't "love" it, but it does have a lot of good things going for it. First of all, Robert DeNiro is great as a murderous lunatic with a grudge. He is genuinely frightening. Nick Nolte is also great as the desperate lawyer on the receiving end of DeNiro's ire. Juliette Lewis manages to piss me off with her performance as per usual. I'm not sure if it's because I don't like her or I just never like the people she plays. I always want to smack her characters in the face.…

a bit rushed at times.
epic ending.

The climax goes on for WAY too long and gets WAY too silly but up until then it was very suspenseful and interesting.
