Carry on Christmas
Ebenezer Scrooge is a misery on Christmas, not allowing people money or doing anything to share Christmas cheer around his employees or acquaintances. While Scrooge is visited by three ghosts we see how his penny pinching has affected those around him.
Spoofing Charles Dickens' A CHRISTMAS CAROL.
Very silly and a bit chaotic. Terry Scott looks like he's having a whale of a time. Frankie Howerd's ad-libbing is a much needed addition - Kenneth Williams is sorely missed.
Seasonal genius from the Carry On crew with Frankie Howerd delivering not one but two show stealing performances.
The Carry On team tackle Dickens' A Christmas Carol in their own inimitable way in this TV special.
The Past/Present/Future sections feature sketches with the most tenuous of links to the story (Frankenstein, Robert Browning and Cinderella) but it's all good fun. It's great to see the team reacting to a live audience for a change, with Charles Hawtery particularly playing the crowd.
But the highlight is undoubtedly Carry On semi-regular Frankie Howerd who steals the whole thing from under the noses of the rest of the crowd. Whenever he's onscreen you can be sure you'll be in stitches. The sight of him dressed as a fat fairy smoking a cigarette is one that will linger long in the memory.
