When you lack the skill or motivation to make a legitimately good movie, you have two options; go meta or go purposefully bad.
"Hey guys! Look at this! Look at how low budget and cliché this is! Isn't it just hilarious? Haha! Because that's not how good movies are! But this is a good movie. No, see, because we're making fun of bad movies. Get it? It's satire. It's like a whole postmodern lambast movement thing, you wouldn't understand. Fuck off. Our movie's great. Haha."

You know when you're at a party and there's a guy there who's really trying to be the hit of the night and you kinda want to get up and punch them because they're acting like a total fucking douchebag. To be fair though maybe every 5 or 6 things they do is actually pretty funny and even at the end of the night when you're driving home you find yourself chuckling in your head about the stupid shit they did and kinda hate yourself for it. This is exactly how I feel about this film.

This thing is absurd. There are loads of ridiculous, over-the-top, purposely poor clichés everywhere. Haha. "Overly dramatic telenovela" is the perfect description.
Inn the film's desire to be poor and overly dramatic it owns up to what it is: a bad comedy. There are funny parts but everything else sucks....but it all sucks on purpose. They wrote this to be awful. More power to them.
At first, I didn't realize what was going on. Then when I noticed that the prop animals were blatantly stuffed and the scenery was painted walls and hollow rocks, it became funny. This thing doesn't take itself too seriously and you shouldn't either.
I really don't know what else to say about this. Is it genius or is it drivel?

Very strange Will Ferrell movie which imitates the style of Mexican Westerns and soaps . Will Ferrell plays it totally straight and its not without its laughs just don't expect many of them

The cigarette humor alone makes this worth watching. Seriously, getting lung cancer has never been so funny.

Well intended and certainly better than the movies it mocks. Will Ferrel and mild anti-film grindhouse antics make this an amusing trip.
It's all together silly but not without plenty of heart. The intended campiness of 'Padre' may wear off on some quickly, but as an easy watch, I stuck to it just fine. Chuckling through to the finish line.

Too few jokes, too much reliance on awkwardly not cutting. I think I would have preferred the movie play it straight spaghetti-western instead of the gags.

This movie is entirely in Spanish with subtitles. That alone tells us it is not quite Will Ferrell's usual fare. It is like a cross between a Spanish telenovela and an old fashioned B-movie Western (definitely B-movie). Those elements made me somewhat interested in the movie and when a coworker said it was just funny without being broad, I gave it a try.
Armando (Will Ferrell) is the good hearted, somewhat simple, son of a Mexican rancher. His brother, Raul, is an unsavory seeming character who lives in the city and brings his gorgeous girlfriend, Sonia, on his latest visit. Sonia is soon predictably torn between Armando's love of the land and Raul's money and influence.

Will Ferrell in an all Spanish language movie? OooooooKaaaaay. This film is ridiculous from start to finish. It has some of Ferrell's signature "stupid" and over the top humor and there are many chuckle-worthy parts. I especially like seeing Bernal and Luna in something totally different and they must have had fun making something light and dumb.
I was impressed with Ferrell's ability to speak Spanish throughout and more importantly his ability to go with the character. Overall, a forgettable movie, but entertaining to throw on for an evening.

This ended up working for me so much more than I thought it would because I love melodrama just as much as I love stupid, stupid things - and on top of that, the movie's quite pretty to look at, too.
However, I must admit, if I were out-of-my-mind stoned, this would have been a five-star classic.

It's amazing that the film remains entertaining for more than a few minutes, a feat that can largely be attributed to Ferrel's commitment and sincerity. It does its best to prevent the audience from ever taking it seriously, and in that it very much succeeds. While generally entertaining, Casa De Mi Padre fails only in that it doesn't often invoke the laughs that it tries to.
