Colin Farrell lighting one cigarette after another and saying "I can't do it" over and over again made me have flashbacks to my exams 3 weeks ago.
I sat through a lot of horrific garbage for Colin, but a Weinstein-produced, Allen-directed film?! Colin, what are you doing to me?!
I really want to like Ewan McGregor, I do, but him working with both Allen AND Polanski? Cheating on his wife with whom he has 4 kids? And with a much younger woman? I mean, what's next? He starts hunting people for sport? He comes to my house and takes a shit on my floor? He murders Baby Yoda in his new Obi Wan show? I feel such fear.
Colin played a car mechanic in this 💦💦💦
A 2007 movie that couldn't look any more 2007 in terms of cinematography. The only way you should see this movie is on a DVD disc that has a halfway scratched off, used Blockbuster sticker on it. Colin Farrell and Ewan McGregor both have so many good performances in movies that have been totally forgotten and this is one they share. Terrific original score by Philip Glass.

Ok, imagine this film BUT it's directed by almost anyone except Woody Allen & instead of what actually happens, Ewan & Colin play boyfriends who buy a boat and sail around, looking pretty and windswept, making out and holding hands.
(Also acceptable: they sit on a boat doing nothing for two hours because that would've probably been more entertaining than this lbr).

If you didn't know this was a Woody Allen film going into it there was really no way to tell that it was. None of his usual tricks are there and it was actually pretty straight. It even had a real, composed score, something I've (for the most part) never witnessed before with Allen. 2 more left to go, Cassandra's Dream is a bit of downer, but it's certainly not a let-down.
Cassandra’s Dream is a tense thriller about mistakes that snowball into chaos. I’ve always really liked this film even when the critics dumped on it. I’m confused about the hate it got. The acting is great especially from Ferrell. It’s shot very beautifully. I was totally engaged the entire time and it still holds up. To each their own.
15 years later and it still hits! If Woody had shaved off 10 mins it’d be a masterpiece — as is there’s about 4 scenes that repeat vibe and info that we already saw in 4 earlier scenes — maybe it’s supposed to help ratchet the moral tension but doesn’t quite work. Also I wish the last shot on Colin’s face was double as long. Still absolutely devastating film with great understanding of class.

One of the two lingering Allen movies I'd yet to see (the other: DON'T DRINK THE WATER, a TV-Movie that's proving harder to find than I am eager to watch it); maybe the secret was having rock-bottom expectations, because this really isn't all that bad. It actually borders on pretty good, and might be even better had Allen not already probed similar territory with moderate more success twice before (CRIMES AND MISDEMEANORS and MATCH POINT). And though it's been a while since I've seen those two films, CASSANDRA'S DREAM really isn't that far behind--worst thing about this is McGregor and Atwell's makeshift romance which is very nearly a non-factor, and only feels like Woody ticking boxes (because what's an…
