They say you can't polish a turd... but Neil Marshall has proven otherwise. This film is lacking in any real substantial plot and pretty sparse on narrative. We follow the story of the remaining few of the ninth roman legion... running away... That's it. For its failings Neil Marshall has made it look quite beautiful. From the very beginning we see some great fight scenes with some well placed gore. Marshall has had some great previous success, particularly with the likes of The Descent and Dog Soldiers. His eye for darkness and his use of available light is perfect here as always. Fassbender is also predictably good and easily breezes through this film as by far the strongest performer, yet all these things cannot make up for its lacking. However if you like your action think, fast and gory then give this a whirl.

I intentionally watched this right off the back of Kevin MacDonald's 'The Eagle' knowing they were treading on very similar turf, dealing with the missing Ninth Legion in ancient Britain. Centurion I knew would be a very different beast under Neil Marshall, the closest the UK has perhaps gotten to our own version of John Carpenter - a director who loves a movie to entertain you with very little subtlety, a potential master of the guilty pleasure. I expected to enjoy this much more of the two... and for half of Centurion, I did; then it all went so very very wrong.
See the whole thing starts out with Marshall at, perhaps, his best; a tough protagonist in the ever-engaging…

Fassbender has yet to disappoint me.

In all honesty I had never heard of this before. The plot sounded interesting, so why not? The plot turned out to be not half bad. Fighting between the Romans and the Picts, and showing their obvious differences and similarities was nice. Lots of good action, and Michael Fassbender does a good job. I think I'm really starting to like him as an actor. Now although it was good, it wasn't great. It was a bit lacking in originality and a bit predictable at times. Overall a good watch for when you want some nice action and a relatively realistic war time plot line. There really isn't much else to say as it's not very psychologically interesting, it's just action, and a good watch.

An extremely mediocre flick! Michael Fassbender is good, but for me, a problem with this movie is that you're not rooting for anyone, Neither Rome invader-fucks or the 'pics', which are portrayed as a crude heartless people .
Did find some enjoyment at some times and some of the action is well done, but then again, some of the action is run of the mill and 'standard' in movies like this. A bunch of better alternatives if you want to see a movie about this theme. -
Believe it or not, this was my first introduction to Michael Fassbender (I never saw 300 beforehand). Despite how good he is in this great film, I would have never thought he would be the rising superstar he is today. It's funny to see an actor in small little seen picture like this and then a year later they're playing Magneto and waving their penis in front of the screen as a sex addict. Hehe...funny.

Overloaded with cliche this movie barely moves, it has a ridiculous story, relies on narrator for no actual purpose. It's just boring and I've seen this done better many times before.

I must admit that I don’t watch movies like this for the storylines or the action. I watch them for the really, ridiculously, insanely hot dudes. In this case, Michael Fassbender and JJ Feild. Action is cool and all, but I am not a fan of gratuitous amounts of blood and decapitations and gory stuff, which this movie had in spades. My eyes sort of glazed over during the bloody parts and came back in focus whenever Fassbender or Feild was on screen. Seriously. YUM. I give this two stars solely for their two delicious faces.

"I AM A SOLDIER OF ROME, I WILL NOT YIELD!"
Damn, I'm not sure what it is exactly, but I love this movie.
Well, first of Fassbender. Great leading man, just drop his butt in your next film and walk away.
Second is Dominic West. He stole my heart as Jimmy McNulty, but as General Titus Flavius Virilus he's great!
I normally hate digital blood, but something about the production value, attention to detail, I forgave Marshal for this one hang up.
All in all, this film is a fast paced, blood-splattered, foot chase. And I'm usually pretty winded after a viewing. -
It's a shame that more movies about ancient Rome aren't made. It's an era filled with huge action, culture clashes, and political intrigue: all of which can be used to make a great film. Centurion fills in some historical gaps in the story of the ninth legion's final campaign in Britain. Ultimately, it's both a chase film and a revenge film. A small band of legionaries is being hunted by a band of Picts across what will eventually be known as Scotland. The bulk of the action is small-scale, but it suits the film well. The action is among the film's strong points. It's fast, bloody, and usually intense--never not entertaining. Centurion even moves well through the quieter points, however…

An unmemorable sword and sandal, cat-and-mouse chase movie that excels because of Neil Marshall's typical gruesome carnage, but fails because it's soulless. If you want a no-substance b-movie, there are far worst movies to see! Your millage may vary.

This was my brothers most recent pick for movie night and I actually quite enjoyed this one. The only thing that I knew about this was that Fassbender was in it so going in I wasn't expecting a whole lot but I was pleasantly surprised.
Dealing with the Romans invasion of Britain and the struggle to conquer the Picts. At first I found myself rooting for the Picts, being Scottish I felt an affinity towards them plus fuck the Romans. But after the twist and with only a few Romans left it becomes a chase movie and incredibly reminiscent of The Grey.
We have a small group of men running through the Snow away from death, heck even some wolves…

Centurion is a pretty decent movie; it's beautifully shot (thanks to director Neil Marshall of The Descent fame), it's reasonably well-acted, and there's some great violent battle scenes. But the story's a bit uneven, and I found it incredibly hard to really root for anyone. Both sides (the Romans and the Picts) can both be assholes and sympathetic, so beyond Michael Fassbender there's really not a clear likeable person or group. But I did enjoy Centurion and it's certainly worth a watch if you're into this type of film.

Dude, that was some violent sh**! Not bad though... rather authentic I guess. Yet lacks the depth of "Valhalla Rising".
