From the reviews I’d read Chrysalis came across as a decent sci-fi thriller with elements of Blade Runner, in reality it’s one of the dullest films I’ve ever seen. Despite being only 94 minutes long it seemed to drag on for ages. The characters are underdeveloped stereotypes, particularly the protagonist: a tough no nonsense cop who bends the rules to get a result. The sci-fi element appears to be nothing more than everything being minimal and shiny, and it never really develops into much of a thriller either, add in some pointless twists and what you’re left with is a film that thinks it’s much slicker and darker than it is.

Futuristic thriller starts off with a bang (make that two) but then lets its own narration crawl down to an overly restrained, subdued pace that occasional bursts of action can't make interesting - mainly because the central sci-fi theme only actually kicks in more than halfway through the movie. Crossing film noir with science-fiction has once bred a classic as "Blade Runner" but, as hard as it tries, "Chrysalis" is unable to replicate the experiment.

Nice looking sci-fi. Had me for a while but then took a turn that I thought could have been different and better.

French science-fiction yawner. A decent concept that utterly misfires in execution.

Dark, gloomy, gritty. A muted palette and lots of brooding. A shocking twist in the climax. Terrific!
The futuristic vision of Paris is well executed, and there are some brilliant fight scenes. (The fight coordinator went on to work in the Bourne Identity)
