This is another childhood favourite and a film I watched more times than I care to mention. Whilst it is often considered a second-tier action movie (and in truth it can’t quite compete with the likes of Die Hard and RoboCop et al) it is still a film jam packed with memorable moments be they of the action variety or cringeworthy one-liners. The film is set apart from many of its competition thanks to its setting, and whilst there have been a few mountain-bound action films, Cliffhanger is undoubtedly the best and the locale adds an extra layer of tension to the already volatile situation.
The film has an eclectic cast of character actors, TV performers and Hollywood A-listers. Whilst…

Part of Dastardly Difficult December: film nr.59
I hadn't seen this in quite some time and I actually upped my rating half a star. It is just so much fun.
Renny Harlin is only as good as the scripts he's given. I don't think he is a director that can create anything other than what's written for him. He has directed one of my guilty pleasures (Deep Blue Sea) and did an ok job following a true classic (Die Hard 2). This one is up there with one other of his best, The Long kiss Goodnight. All his other films are utter tosh.
This film practically directs itself as it has two very important ingredients. It has an original premise…

Every time I watch this my perfect love for the film grows.

I got this on VHS for my 10th birthday. I feel old!! I also feel fucking awesome after rewatching this badass gem! My favorite Stallone and one of my favorite action films of all time!!

Whilst re-watching this film I managed to accidentally rub pepper in my eye. It bloody hurt and my eye was watering and stinging like crazy! I was partially blind for a least 5 mins
This film is crazy and eye watering enough without having pepper in the eye, especially if you don't have a head for heights.
One thing that I did notice watching it again is that Sly gets around those mountains bloody quickly! It's like he has a teleport machine. Still fairly awesome though!

An absolute action masterpiece. This is Renny Harlin's magnum opus. Every single moment of the film is amazing. There isn't a word hyperbolic enough to describe my love for Cliffhanger.

Renny Harlin directs this surpringsly enjoyable mountain climbing action film (on that premise alone) starring Sylvester Stallone, John Lithgow, Michael Rooker and Janine Turner.
Reitred mountain rescue woker Gabe (Stallone), still dealing with the guilt of failing to save his best friend Hal's (Michael Rooker) girlfriend from a harrowing opening climbing accident sequence, is called upon to resuce a band of tourists lost after a plane crash high in the dangerous, snowy peaks of a mountain range, with the small rescue team knowing that Gabe and Hal are the best to do the job.
It turns out the "tourists" are a band of rather nasty and cold-hearted mercenaries lead by ex-US officer Qualen (John Lithgow) who have crashed with $100…

So good girl.
