It's actually surprising how good Mel Gibson is here. I mean, he's always been a good actor, but here I think he's the best he's ever been as conspiracy nut Jerry Fletcher. Overall, I liked this movie a lot (even Julia Roberts is good here), but like most Richard Donner films, it goes maybe 20 minutes longer than it actually should and struggles with it's tone at times. But that's balanced out by an engaging script with a few twist and turns and Mel Gibson's great aforementioned performance as Fletcher.

I do love a film where our lead characters are chased by shadowy individuals, usually in black cars.
And this is a fine example.
Mel Gibson plays a lunatic better than most. In this his lunatic is also massively paranoid. Richard Donner draws us into that paranoia by constantly changing the tone of his film. It flips between humour, thrills, sadness, and a soap opera. It's unsettling, and great in equal measures.
Mel Gibson is appealing enough, and there is much efficiency and intelligence to appeal for its 135 minutes, before it disappoints with a rather cynical fade out.
Two thirds of a great movie.

I love this movie in all its 90's glory! Mel Gibson turns in one of his best performances ever and Julia Roberts is stunning. The two have great chemistry and although the plot is so-so, you're right there with Mel. He's the man.

Richard Donner has a had a pretty successful career with films like The Omen, Superman, and the Lethal Weapon series on his résumé. Sadly, Conspiracy Theory doesn't live up to those standards, even with Mel Gibson and Julia Roberts as the leads. It's too long, with a plot that could be tightened up a bit (or a lot), and it's just generally uninteresting. Gibson's character is extremely unlikable for the most part, but the fact that Mel himself is portraying the character is supposed to endear him to the audience. That really doesn't work though.
Conspiracy Theory really isn't worth your time.

Päähänpinttymiä, neurooseja ja vastakkaisen sukupuolen vetovoimaa. Ei niin vauhdikasta menoa mitä alussa annetaan ymmärtää.

6.0/10
Conspiracy Theory by Richard Donner is an entertaining but at times uneven thriller that benefits from very good performances of Julia Roberts, Mel Gibson and Patrick Stewart, and from a nice directing work, but suffers from inconsistent writing and a lack of self-confidence.

I probably shouldn't still like this one. But I do. Mel is truly great here, the script isn't. (If not much else, you're likely to remember it for what is quite possibly the worst pun in cinema history: "Now he nose, now he nose". Glorious.)

I likes this actually :)

Oh boy what a mess this movie is! The 5th collaboration between Mel Gibson and Richard Donner doesn't hold a candle to rest of their collective output. The only real reason to see it is for a whacked out performance from Gibson, otherwise i'd stick with the Lethal Weapon flicks.
