That beginning is beautifully iconic (also see the Powers of Ten video).

I really wanted to love Contact, as I have recently become a big fan of Carl Sagan. I've also really enjoyed some of Robert Zemeckis' other films. Unfortunately, there were some elements that kind of brought it down a bit for me.
