Overall, CORMAN'S WORLD is a solid documentary charting the career of a genuine movie maverick, but there are a few issues that stopped the film from being all that it could be:
Undoubtedly, the biggest thrill was hearing Jack Nicholson talk at length about his pre-EASY RIDER exploitation career, something I've never previously heard him do. For once, Julie Corman and Gene Corman are given their due and Scorsese is also as eloquent as ever, but then he has never really denied his roots and has always taken an interest in the b-movie world, even as his career went stellar (I still have an old Fangoria from 1982 where he personally pays tribute to David Cronenberg as being a director…

Excellent!
Not knowing very much about Roger Corman or his films, this was an engaging and extremely interesting look at this film icon.
Fair enough some, well maybe a lot of his films do look rather terrible, but in the early days he did start a lot of today's stars and major Directors on their paths to fame and glory!I may even be tempted to pick up a couple of his films to see how good, or bad they are.
He sounded like he loved film making and just wanted to make films any way he could.
Engaging documentary - part of my Documentary Challenge!

I picked this up after reading my mate Dave's review and thankfully it really lived up to what I hoped I'd get from the documentary.

Roger Corman is a name I've encountered a lot over the years, but he's always managed to remain in shadow, mostly due to his films not being easily accessible. How often do you stumble across The Wasp Woman? So it's a wonderful experience to see the spotlight shone directly on him, along with the many actors and directors whose careers he helped launch as well as showcasing his art. The origins of Easy Rider came as a pleasant surprise, adding two more films to my 'must see' list...along with a whole host of others.
Filled with emotion and made with love, it's a great window into a very unique world of low budget moviemaking.

Fortunately I'm not among the majority of 20-25 year old film buffs who wouldn't know the name of Roger Corman according to Penelope Spheeris, but I can't say I knew half as much as this great documentary has to offer. That Corman made valuable script contributions to The Gunfighter, one of my very favourite Westerns, was the first sign that the man's serious artistic merit goes far beyond my own preconceptions and those of most who know him as the world's foremost schlockmeister. Full of great interviews, a huge range of clips, and a loyal and cheeky fondness of its subject, this is a massively fun and really insightful documentary you really ought to check out.

I have seen this before and I like it. It's a good dose of praise for a man that hasn't always got the recognition, with a few little interesting stories thrown in. It also has an impressive list of Corman's old actors and directors saying their bit very eloquently. Why Eli 'fucking' Roth is there I don't know. Why he hasn't had a crossbow shot threw his whiny face yet I don't know but apart from that, a great introduction to a man every film buff needs to know more about.

The construction of this film is every bit as engaging as Senna.

I have always thought of Roger Corman as pretty much making low budget movies about tits & explosions but it turns out he has had a pretty interesting career.

An essential history of a legend told adequately. Visually and narratively unremarkable, but informative, fun, and surprisingly sweet.

Now that’s off my chest I want to whole heartedly recommend Corman’s world, a fawning, but not undeservedly so, bio-doc of low budget film supremo Roger Corman. Corman has been more prolific than a catholic bunny in the span of his 60-year career producing almost 400 films and directing over 60. It’s standard nuts and bolts; talking heads and archive documentary filmmaking but it is the richness of the subject matter that shines through.
There is a wealth of archive to draw from including Attack of the Crab Monster, Little Shop of Horrors, Wild Angles and of course all the Vincent Price lead, Edgar Allen Poe adaptations. The talking heads amount to one of the most impressive casts ever assembled.…

As doco's about film and film making go, this is comparable to something like Not Quite Hollywood, the Ozploitation documentary. Basically, it's a bunch of people chatting about Roger Corman and the many, many films he's done. Roger tells us how he got started, and if you are a fan of genre cinema, independent cinema and any form of exploitation cinema then you really will get a kick out of this. There's lots of different footage although they don't touch on some of my favorites. The highlight is Corman accepting an Honorary Oscar for his lifetime achievement and Jack Nicholson having a teary moment for the camera. Like any Corman film, this doco isn't essential viewing but many fans will owe it to themselves to give this a once through.

Roger Corman gave birth to the B-movie film. But that's not all he is responsible for as he started the success of some of the biggest and greatest filmmakers and actors of our time, from Jack Nicholson to Martin Scorsesse. This documentary is an in-depth and some times emotional (Jack Nicholson sheds some tears) look into the rise and on going successes of Roger Corman. Any fan of genre or, "guerrilla," filmmaking will wanna see where their favorite movies have stemmed from; for without Roger Corman, films would've never been the same.

A fun and inspiring look into the mind and career of lifelong independent filmmaker Roger Corman. Well worth your time if you enjoy his films or ever want to make your own low-budget masterpieces.
Also worth it to see Jack Nicholson cry.
