All Lists in My Soundtrack Series:
Four couples, all friends, descend on a tropical island resort. Though one husband and wife are there to work on their marriage, the others just want to enjoy some fun in the sun. They soon find, however, that paradise comes at a price: Participation in couples therapy sessions is mandatory. What started out as a cut-rate vacation turns into an examination of the common problems many face.
Oh. It's gonna be that kind of movie.
"When you're living in my house, you're a Taliban! Okay? You keep your body a secret. Except you get to, you know, go to school and read books."
You ever have one of those movies that you hated on release and then watch a few years later and realise that it's actually not completely terrible?
Couples Retreat isn't groundbreaking or original in the comedy department, but it's a decent way to spend some time.
Jason Bateman seems to be pushing himself as a sort of wooden square named Jason.
This is one of those comedies that should have been good because of its ensemble cast, but its full of too much bad dialogue and awkward scenes that its talent is wasted.
There's definitely a lot worse out there, though. It's not offensive, at least.
MOVIE A DAY FOR A YEAR - DAY 207
I am a firm believer in the fact that this movie only gets better with age.
June Challenge Film #56
I have seen worse movies. The problem with this one is, it is a comedy with all sorts of comedic people in it, but it isn't funny.
¨Do you have a phone? I need to call God and tell Him that one of His angels is missing. ¨
If you never heard that line before then perhaps you will enjoy this movie which consists of familiar jokes and few laughs and several cheesy dialogues. This movie was really hard to sit through and looked much better in the trailers than it actually was. The cast is an interesting one, but the material they had to work with was very poor. Vince Vaughn teamed up with Iron Man director Jon Favreau and Dana Fox to write the screenplay for this film, and all I can say is that they should stick to directing and acting based on this…
I'm only reviewing this to balance out my ratings.
Kind of a different rom com, but quite funny.
I desperately want Vince Vaughn to make a good movie, but this just isn't funny enough.
people in movies are more neurotic, petty, irresponsible, obnoxious, insipid and perfectly gorgeous than anyone in real life. why not bask in that? oh, i don't know, because i'd rather be dead?
This is what happens when you are laid up with a terrible cold on a day off from work. This is what fucking happens.
It's upsetting how many times I've watched this movie.
I watched this whilst cooking a curry in preparation for Southpaw later. It was what it was.
Don't expect quality of such a spontaneous cast of comedians (Vince Vaughn, Jon Favreau, Jason Bateman, Faizon Love) and actresses (Malin Akerman, Kristin Davis, Kristen Bell, Kali Hawk). "Couples Retreat" is a dreary slog of a comedy. The premise is fine for an ensemble comedy, but the result is a bore and a sore. All the joke rely on being misogynistic, grossed out or insulting. And the characters are smug and uninteresting. And yes, Vince Vaughn is playing himself.
I've always been interested in what other people are seeing and watching, and naturally, I love looking at Weekend Box…
In order i've seen them.
