Crazy Heart
2009 Directed by Scott Cooper
Synopsis
The harder the life, the sweeter the song.
When reporter Jean Craddock interviews Bad Blake -- an alcoholic, seen-better-days country music legend -- they connect, and the hard-living crooner sees a possible saving grace in a life with Jean and her young son. But can he leave behind an existence playing in the shadow of Tommy, the upstart kid he once mentored?

Jeff Bridges is awesome. Can't believe it's taken me this long to get round to watching this. Just an incredible performance, and performances from the entire cast - and the music is incredible - and I'm not even the slightest fan of country music!

Jeff Bridges as a low life country singer hitting rock bottom in his late days. Alcohol, women and touring around the country, this movie shows the afterlife of Sex, Drugs and Rock & Roll and how one tries to revive it. About how the student (Colin Farrell) beats the master.
You don't know for sure if you should feel pity and sorrow with this man or just to blame him for the downfall of his life. Maggie Gyllenhaal tries to pull him out of this misery, but will she succeed? A movie with one of the best written soundtrack, or better to say, one of the best written country albums ever around describing the story by itself. Listening to it by yourself already makes you picture the life of a man who has a crazy heart. -
I love Jeff Bridges, I really do. But even he wasn't strong enough to help me plough through Crazy Heart. A lack of story, shallow characters and a constant orange hue made this entirely unwatchable.
The one saving grace is Maggie Gyllenhaal who I have a thing for so that doesn't really count.

I enjoyed Jeff Bridges acting better than the film itself but overall it's worth seeing.

Jeff Bridges mumbles his way through the movie playing a piss-pot country singer playing shithole dives who scores with Jake Gill-en-hall's ugly sister and gets some offers in the music biz that he isn't to fond of. Despite having to ask the missus what he was saying about 12 times during the film, Jeff puts on a belivable show. Rob Duvall has a small role in it and shines. I like him. And I liked this film.

Really good soundtrack by T-Bone Burnett gets a star. Almost gets another star for reminding me about Robert Duvall and his film The Apostle which I really enjoyed. Super low-key performances by Jeff Bridges and (especially) Maggie Gyllenhaal as the leads, but have already given a star for the soundtrack. Overall, left pondering the point of this film, though the quality of acting makes it worth watching.

Enjoyable music drama about a drunken, washed up country singer (based on Waylon Jennings, Merle Haggard and Kris Kristofferson) played by Jeff Bridges. The film has a fantastic soundtrack and some memorable central performances.

I feel pretty bad for taking so long to get around to watching this. It's great. Jeff Bridges could make this thing almost pass for a documentary at times. What a performance!
-
amazing performances by both BRIDGES & GYLLENHAAL and perhaps the best use of a song as part of the story in a long while.

The story has been told many times before, but Crazy Heart has a great soundtrack, terrific performances from Jeff Bridges and Maggie Gyllenhaal, and a lot of heart.

I guess I can understand the likeability of it, but it really didn't do anything for me. The acting is definitely there with Bridges and Maggie was, eh, okay. But I have to agree with whoever said it has a similar tone to The Wrestler. The plot just wasn't as good as it could have been (maybe more music scenes?) but in the end I was just left with something I didn't care for too much, and honestly a quite forgettable film. And the country music didn't help.

Triste e bonito como um blues.
Sad and beautiful like a blues.
