1991 ‘Critters 3’ Directed by Kristine Peterson

Another one of those horror films where a future megastar makes their film debut. In this case, old sprout face himself Leonardo di Caprio!!
Accompanying him is series stalwart Don Opper as Charlie and the bushy eyebrowed and new "Most Beautiful Thing I've Ever Seen" Aimee Brooks
Somehow the Crites make it to L.A...into a tower block a dodgy landlord is trying to clear, with bloody, slapstick-y and crappy results!
It seems to have been made for about £15 and 5 minutes of the 79 minute run time is a montage of shots from the first 2 films, but they still had the foresight to throw in a "to be continued" credits sequence to set up part 4. Which I applaud wholeheartedly!
Stupid fun for stupid people!

Again, more critters shows up and now they hide under a car and ends up in Los Angeles and I thought they would take over and terrorize the city. Sadly that don't happen instead it all takes place in an apartment building where the landlord have forced the majority of the tenants to move because he wants to make the house into a shopping center (or similar) It's light on plot, some people are trapped with the Critters and they try get out. No bounty hunter who changes shape this time, we only get a human (Opper) who shows up and helps. The end leads directly to the fourth film that was made simultaneously.
This movie was Leonardo DiCaprio's film debut and he is OK.

One of my absolute favourite B-Movies/Creature Features, and EASILY the best entry of this particular franchise. The puppets themselves have a lot of character, the characters aren't exactly three dimensional, but they're memorable and likeable, it knows when to be slightly tense and when not to take itself too seriously, and it works on multiple levels- the version I watched had editing to make it broadcastable during the day, and it still works as a fun romp for older kids.
And yes, this is the one with young Leo DiCaprio in it. He was really good even back then.
Recommended to anyone who likes old-school effects work and a good laugh.

The magic is gone. I definitely never saw this one back in the day and apparently for good reason. Leonardo DiCaprio (in his first movie role) and Frances Bay pop up. So there's that. But this third entry in this series of GREMLINS rip-offs lacks the wit and unbridled B-movie enthusiasm of its immediate predecessors. A run-of-the-mill furry bowling balls behaving badly flick, biting people, shooting needles, etc. The only marginally interesting segment takes place during the credits to set up CRITTERS 4.

Yes, it is very bad. However, it's ALMOST enjoyably awful.

While the premise makes no goddamn sense, this movie actually marks the first entry in the career of a young actor called Leonardo Di Caprio. And though he does a good job at portraying the "I hate you dad!"-kid, he seems to be stuck in a different movie. The drama and emotions he brings to his role are absolutely wasted on this slapstick-fest.
The tonal shift is very obvious in the style of comedy. While the predecessors relied on the bounty hunters and their "big gun"-mentality to bring the laughs, this entry relies heavily on goofy slapstick. At least there is some salvation since a couple of the jokes really hit the mark. But when the Critters start eating beans…

My Atlantic piece on future stars' beginnings in horror flicks is here.

The worst of the Critters film, and oddly it was one of DiCaprio's first film roles. Brooks is fantastic as the lead girl that must help everyone survive the Critters in their run down apartment. Having only Charlie return of the Bounty Hunters really hurts this film, as he's basically too accident prone to do anything right.
