Daredevil
2003 Directed by Mark Steven Johnson
Synopsis
A Guardian Devil
He dwells in a world of external night, but the blackness is filled with sounds and scents, tastes and textures that most cannot perceive. Although attorney Matt Murdock is blind, his other four senses function with superhuman sharpness. By day, Murdock represents the downtrodden. At night he is Daredevil, a masked vigilante stalking the dark streets of the city, a relentless avenger of justice.

Made me wish I was blind so I wouldn't be able to see it.

A lot of people downright hate this film, but I actually really liked it. In fact, not only do I think it's not as bad as people make it out to be, I think there's a lot to like about it. Yes, I understand this has problems, mainly within the cast. Ben Affleck was really miscast and barely works as Daredevil or even Matt Murdock. Though you at least sorta get used to him or deal with him after a while, but I could'nt stand Jennifer Garner. She was both terrible and annoying, simultaneously mind you. Then there's that infamous sex scene that almost fucks up the whole character of Daredevil. Then again, it's taken out of the director's cut…

After the hoo-ha this week about the film franchise rights for Daredevil returning to Marvel, I thought I'd give the 2003 film another crack. After the utterly bollocks Elektra spin-off killed the franchise dead, Fox have been trying desperately for years to claw back any credibility in the characters and reboot the series. Most recently, David Slade (Hard Candy, 30 Days Of Night, The Twiglets Saga: Eclipse) had been working on resurrecting Daredevil with all manner of names like Chris Pine and Vin Diesel attached to star. Well... thank fuck that all fell to shit. Slade dropped out, only to be replaced by Joe (Narc/ A-Team) Carnahan who came in at a late stage of development with many of his…

Part of the Ultimate Marvel Movie Marathon:
letterboxd.com/evileyeperry/list/the-ultimate-marvel-avengers-movie-marathon/Not as bad as you might think, I find this film far more watchable and enjoyable than some of Marvel's other offerings and it probably should have been better received than it was.
Breaking the formula of most comic book origin movies, this shows us our fully costumed hero within the first couple of minutes, and rather than looking fantastic, he's injured and smashing into the floor of a church. It's a brave introduction to a character for Marvel, and far more refreshing than the majority of its other franchise openers as a result.
Young Matt Murdock's story is inevitably covered, but it is done so very efficiently in order to establish…

The only reason why this film is getting at least one star, is because of the late, great Michael Clarke Duncan who is absolutely GOLDEN in this film. He played a GREAT "Kingpin", which made me wonder why he was never put in more "villain roles". I remember when this film came out and everyone was all up in a storm wondering why we had to have a "Black Kingpin". I bet those people look absolutely foolish now ... as MCD was just wickedly entertaining in this film, despite the fact that he was surrounded by shit.
It's a good thing Ben Afleck has rejuvenated his career as a director ... because "GONE BABY GONE", and his direction AND performances…

I really wanted to like this film...but I don't. It's terrible.
Horrible script-the playground scene could be one of the worst scenes I have ever seen.
Like Batman & Robin I can't hold the actors to blame-they do what they can to try to make this entertaining-but there was no saving this movie.
Poorly written-poor effects-poorly directed.

Well....I was entertained. It was not a complete disaster, but by no means a triumph. It started out good enough, and there were a few worthwhile scenes, but it had its problems:
1.Garner...Still think she's too man-ish, and what was the point of the bad fake green contacts?
2.The cameos are getting to be a bit much - Affleck pal Kevin Smith, Marvel's Stan Lee... plus every minor character had an "in-joke" name (Jack Kirby, John Romita - all Marvel Comics artists)
3.Murdock comes off as a bit of a stalker when first meeting Elektra
4.His mortal wound seems to miraculously heal and not bother him as he jumps up and fights two more villains
5.If he can "see" the… -
The Vigilante alter-ego of Matt Murdoch could never have been an easy sale. For starters the comic does not reach the similar audience size of larger based superheroes; Spiderman, Superman etc. Nor does it hold an antagonist that is easily engrossing - such as Batman. With a much darker tone to other similar age group publications, and a main character that is withdrawn in his emotions, ‘Daredevil’ in movie form could have failed miserably in what other properties have succeeded in doing. It does not however, fail on every level that it attempts to achieve. Instead, only on certain elements that build up to form the film. This means that although ‘Daredevil’ is flawed, it does hold a maturity over…

We all know Daredevil is a film people love to hate, and for the most part I agree. The theatrical cut was pretty awful with many misplaced scenes which made some of the poor casting choices even further apparent.
However, the Director's Cut is a significant improvement. Gone is that HORRIBLE sex scene and instead a stronger, more brooding tone is allowed to set in.
It's actually quite enjoyable for the most part.
Shame about Elektra...fuck me that film sucked.

Despite Matt Murdock being one of my fave comic book characters, I put off seeing this movie for a long time, because everyone said it sucked. Turns out I really liked it. The origin story in the beginning was perfect. Afleck was good, Farrell as Bullseye was great! Really the only bad part of the movie was the terrible, dated soundtrack.

I recommend skipping the theatrical version and watching the superior Director's Cut.
