This movie is incredible. I think it is the first film to evoke feelings in me of sadness, happiness and triumph all at one given time. The story is beautiful and realistic. Highly recommended!

Part of '30 Years, 30 Movies': 1989
FUCK. SYNTHS.
ahem.
Dead Poet's Society was the first movie of this challenge to significantly exceed my expectations. I was ready to just watch it and happy I was out of the 80s but I ended up really enjoying it. It was very slow to start for me and for the first hour and a bit I found myself very distracted any time Robin Williams wasn't on screen. Obviously it doesn't need to…

Great film about life, and growing up. Robin Williams with an outstanding performance.

Robin Williams. Now there's a quandary.
Is he the most underrated actor in Hollywood? Nay, the world?
Is he anyone's favourite actor? And if he was, who would admit it?
In Dead Poets Society, he comes to act. Not to cut some comic riffs. He. Gives a premium performance. In fact the whole film is hampered by the fact that he is just not given enough screen time. But it is testament to the Oscar winning story, and beautiful direction…

A bit rough around the edges in a dated way, but the sage, timeless advice of Mr. Keating is just as inspiring now as I imagine in it's time.
I really disliked that the love angle with Know was dropped after the suicide. I suppose the shot of them holding hands was supposed to be enough implication but it just didn't do it for me.
I also disliked how much screen time was devoted to the character of Charlie only…

Life is full of possibilities. So step on it.

I saw this in 1990. Have not seen it since. I remember liking it and should probably watch it again.

It's an average film throughout but that ending is always going to get me, even this time when I told myself it wouldn't.
