I thought I needed more Walton Goggins in my life, but really I just needed to watch The Hateful 8 for the fifth time.
Meistens…
Scotty should never have put himself directly in the giant shadow of his Father. This movie is a disaster.
Plain old-fashioned atrocious filmmaking. Has no ending, no rhythm, makes no sense, has a stupid twist, and features a laughably bad Scott Eastwood, clearly riding his father's coattails while turning in the worst impression of the Hollywood legend I have ever seen. At barely seventy-five minutes, Diablo is like what you would get if you cobbled together all the scenes of a supporting actor cut from an epic western because both he and his character completely sucked ass.
Scott Eastwood plays a civil war vet who has had his wife kidnapped by a Mexican gang and his house burnt to the ground. Within the first five minutes of the movie he's already on his way to get her back. It seems many people saw "EASTWOOD" slapped on the cover of this movie and expected some kind of brilliant Spaghetti Western and were disappointed, because this is not that, and it's solid, a lot better than the 2.1 average here on Letterboxd. (Edit: Up to 2.5 now. Looks like people are waking up)
Diablo looks fantastic thanks in part to the Alberta (Canada) shooting locations featuring snow capped mountains, spruce trees covered in snow, rapidly moving rivers, and vast…
this has to be the most ridiculous ending that's ever been made.
diablo is dull. it has no good script and no memorable acting from the main actors. which is why it's a shame they didn't use danny glover more. the drone shots are seriously infuriating. modern westerns are not for me. it seems like directors think one deep quote and a plot twist will be life changing. heads up: it's not the case!
the 60s and 70s were the peak for the genre. back then, they would be based on performances and plot rather than on production only. just because your film looks nice does not mean it is good. and diablo proves this 'perfectly'.
i would say it's a descent in hell. not because of the story development, but because of how awful the film gets the more you get into it. it's a total bum.
