Like the film's star David Thewlis, this is very, very underrated. As a dark comedy, the laughs don't come frequent, but when they come it's very funny and sometimes hilarious. Plus, the story has enough intrigue weaven in it's plot to keep you watching and it's so unpredictable you're constantly watching and guessing what will happen next. David Thewlis gives a great performance. His career should have went over higher than it has and this is one of his best performances. You also get great supporting performances, including a very excellent Jason Isaacs in the villain role (ironic how both Thewlis and Isaacs would end up on Harry Potter just a few years later). If you want to watch a truly unpredictable and funny film, look no further than this criminally underrated gem.

A BBC production, I gave this 20 minutes and had to sack it off. Five minutes more the Laptop would have gone flying through the window.
David Thewlis is awful as a drunken hack.I swear if I saw him walking down the hard shoulder with a petrol can I'd pick him up and drop him off in some remote and desolate part of Scotland.
Robert Lindsay's no better. His Irish accent is as believable as Lance Armstrong claiming he's not a drugs cheat.
Only if you want to strip 5 years off your life. That 20 minutes has probably cost me a good 18 months.
