This was always low budget, but the advent of BluRay and hi-res streaming makes it look like a YouTube video, which is a shame because it's still an absolute fucking blast and a high-point for the werewolf movie, marred only slightly by some unnecessary misogyny at the end.
I want Sean Pertwee's sergeant to be my Uncle.

(Film 31 of Toby's Attempt At The December Project)
"I expect nothing but gratuitous violence from the lot of you"
On paper, this really shouldn't have worked. Soldiers versus werewolves? Admit it, that sounds like nothing more than B-movie trash.
And yet, it does work. It's funny, it's gory, it's violent and at times, completely batshit-insane. I mean, someone holds his insides together with duct tape at one point.
It's not all like that though. The banter between the squad is brilliantly realistic, it continually makes jokey references to tons of other movies (including one joke you have to wait most of the film for the pay-off) and...no wait, it pretty much is exactly how I described it above. Did I mention it was fun? Because it is. Although you probably should have guessed that by now.Oh, and for those outside of the UK, England vs Germany is definitely very serious business.

tagline: Six men. Full moon. No chance.
British soldiers vs Werewolves...be honest who expects a brilliant movie out of that?
Sean Pertwee, Liam Cunningham and Kevin McKidd star in this werewolf movie whereas a routine military exercise (seems to be the theme of the day) very quickly turns into a fight for survival against a pack of thinking and cooperating werewolves.
Funny and gory and fast paced this movie gave me the feeling of The Predator being mixed with The Night of The Living Dead.
Great fun to watch!

A team of soldiers on a training exercise get a little more than they signed up for when they come across a Special Forces team that have been attacked by a pack of werewolves. The team takes shelter in a cottage, and attempt to wait it out til dawn. Needless to say, it gets pretty ugly.
This is only the second movie I've seen by director Neil Marshall (the other being the Descent). Although I wouldn't rush to see it again, I thought it was really well shot. There was lots of blood and guts and growling. But that's about it, really. It's probably a case of werewolves just not being my thing.

I really, really love this film. It's rough, simple, gory and, well thats it really. The werewolf design is great, and the Night of the Living Dead with soldiers setting works really well with the beasts kept outside in shadow much of the time.

With that title, how great would it have been if this was the latest Air Buddies movie?
DOG SOLDIERS is competently made, make no bones about it.All the proper elements and plot beats are here: the establishing shots, the backstory flashback scene, the strong lead actor in Kevin mcKidd, variety of shots, the expected type of background music. Nothing is being done so well that it can shake the pulpy second-rate, seen-this-before-but-better feeling that permeates this piece. You can tell that they had a limited budget and they made all the right decisions to make the best movie they could. I can see why this has a cult following.

The werewolves are cheesy but I love this movie and the creepiness of the Scottish Highlands location. Good fun.

Dude...Jarrard....WTF man
Ok so this movie is horrible, I mean its just bad writing. As far as B movies go this has to be like a B-
However that being said even though I called it horrible a second ago the movie wasn't bad, well I mean the writing was pretty bad, and the special effects were pretty bad, OK so yeah I know I'm calling it bad..but it wasn't.
What I mean to say is that despite all that, I found myself enjoying it. The acting is actually well done. What makes the acting even better I think is that these people had to have known how second rate the movie actually is. The actors all gave it their…

Normāls trešs ar asiņainām ķiškām un vilkačiem līdzīgām personām. Tam visam samērīgā apjomā pievienotais ļoti melnais humors filmu padarīja pat ļoti baudāmu.

I did enjoy Dog Soldiers, but I was annoyed by the camerawork and editing used to shoot around the special effects (or lack thereof). It all just felt very amateurish. Marshall learned from this, though, as his next film was the remarkable cave epic The Descent - one of my favorite horror films ever. Oh, and First Look's Blu-ray of the film is shitacular. I should've just stuck with my DVD edition.
