It’s a sure bet that when Ashley Judd and Morgan Freeman star in the same film you’re in for a mediocre ride. I was convinced I was going to hate this. It had all the hallmarks for a schmaltzy true life story full of vomit-inducing platitudes and trite life lessons. The film contains all these things and more but miraculously it was sort of watchable. It labours its message of healing - the kid comes from a broken home, his cousin is injured and may not walk again, the dolphin is missing a tail etc. - and it is dramatically inert with all the big moments passing with very little incident or sense of peril. Yet despite all this as…

Oh sure, hook them up with bionic limbs. They're already smarter than us and you want to give them more killing power? What the shit is wrong with you people? Why don't you just hook them up with some sort of breathing apparatus so we can skip the "oh god dolphins are taking over the planet and enslaving the human race!" part and just jump straight to working in the salt mines now?!? Geeeez.

I didn't know if I'd ever find a family film about people and animals and the connection between them that was worth my time.
Dolphin Tale was a very pleasant surprise.
The story of Winter the dolphin is an amazing one, and the film being based on a true story adds another genuine element to what is a well-told tale.
One of the things that impressed me the most about this film is that it is (repeatedly) not typical. A dolphin gets caught in a crabber's ropes, my instant assumption is that this will be a film about the evils of fishing. Not true. A boy fails his classes and has to take summer school, but when he starts learning…

Typical family film, high WAF :)

Feelgood movie if you're in the mood for something simple and entertaining.

"Verwacht geen grootse acteerprestaties of oogstrelende cinematografie, maar wél een vakkundig en met liefde gemaakte film waar het hele gezin plezier aan kan beleven."

Sappy as can be with a hint of corniness. Freeman phones it in. The male kid actor is not really very good but the girl kid actor is not bad. The adult performances vary from uninteresting (Connick, Jr.) to painful (Kristofferson who I usually enjoy).
Would probably be OK to watch with young kids but that's about it.

A feel good family film, based on a true story.
The film itself is nothing special. Something great to watch with a younger audience, but i think adding the footage from the real Winter and everyone who helped her in real life, really brings home how good the storytelling of the film was.

Great true story in a cheesily written and directed wrapper. It often felt like a made-for-TV movie, elevated only by the presence of the respectable adult cast members. Kids were obviously a major part of the target audience, but I doubt even they would be entertained by, oh the runaway helicopter scene, for example.
The candid footage at the end was the best part.

I don't understand why this movie was rated so highly (It holds 83% on Rotten Tomatoes). Whilst its a okay movie its so cheesy and manufactured that its not worthy of such high praise.
The plot is predictable but enjoyable enough, its based on a true story which the film bashes over you head. The acting is typical family movie level.
The kids will enjoy this but the adults will probably be feeling a little sick of all the attempts at being heart warming that Dolphin Tale is crammed with.

Bonita historia con hermosos paisajes...
