Did you ever wanna watch Dawn of the Dead, Mad Max, Army of Darkness, 28 Days Later, The Warriors, Alien, Escape from New York, A Boy and His Dog and the Hills Have Eyes all at the same time? Well now you can!

It really tries too hard to be cult, camp and everything in between, but I couldn't care less. It is fun. And that is exactly what it needs to be.
I think Marshall always has the ability to add something to his films that elevates them above mediocrity. Sure, here he pushes it, but you can't deny that his love for this type of films shows in this homage or tribute or rip-off, whatever you want to call it. It is fast paced, action packed, gory and funny. Nothing to complain about really.
If all of the above doesn't float your boat, you can always enjoy Rhona Mitra running around in tight pants for 90 minutes.

Sure at times it looks like a glorified car commercial, and it's all been done better in other films, but it is still pretty awesome and fun.

Caio mizera.

En el top 10 de peores películas que he visto en mi vida. Doomsday está tres veces.

Really disliked this when I saw it back in the theater, but liked it more this time around. Still not a great film though, simply because it doesn't come close to being as good as the films it is imitating.

After the critical and commercial success of The Descent, anticipation (and expectation) for Neil Marshall's follow-up was high.
And then it got released.
To say reaction to Doomsday was mixed would be a understatement. Critics bemoaned the excessive gore, the thinly drawn characters, the sometimes incoherent editing, and the derivative nature of the plot.
To those critics I say - piffle.
Films don't always have to be about something (although comments on human nature and hierarchies are in there if you look hard enough,) sometimes they just need to provide bloody, visceral thrills. And Doomsday delivers those in spades. And pickaxes. And guns.
It's like a big budget version of The Crystal Maze (google it,) where the objective isn't so…

On my first or second viewing I thought this was really fun, but as it turns out, it doesn't really hold up on repeat viewings.

It's fun in the theater because of the bi-polar tonal and plot changes, but once you are done playing the "what movie is Neil Marshall ripping off" game, the film cannot possibly warrant a re-watch.

very under-rated

Even Englishmen can make silly science fiction film. Here we have mix of 28 Days Later, Mad Max and Beowulf. Nonsensical, yet watchable. Especially Sean Pertwee - I really love him, delightful as always, great actor and always eager to die for the role.

Doomsday, the post-apocalyptic non-stop action extravaganza, is the cinematic equivalent to a soda-fountain ‘Suicide.’ You know, when you were 10 and you filled your cup with a bit from each of the soda jets on the soda machine? (We called them ‘Suicides’- I’m sure there were other names for them as well).
Well, instead of Wild Cherry Pepsi and Dad’s Root Beer, the Doomsday cup is filled with 28 Days Later, Escape from New York, Aliens, Predator, I Am Legend, The Road Warrior, Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, Excalibur, and Gladiator.
The good news is that I like most of these movies, so I was pretty forgiving of Doomsday. It is truly something to behold; there is not one single original…

I love Neil Marshall and liked this significantly. I still haven't seen Escape from NY or Mad Max, so I may shoot for a triple feature tonight. Not perfect, but it really doesn't give a fuck, does it?
