  the 2008 gay Bollywood movie. Well, not really, but two of Bollywood's hottest male stars John Abraham and Abhishek Bachchan pretend to be gay to snag the Miami apartment of their dreams and to get preferential treatment from the INS fora special same sex residency permit !!! There's a girl of course in this light, sexy comedy but with a gay friendly message, as she tells one of the mothers "if he can lie for your happiness, then can't you accept the truth of his happiness?" In spite of the modern look and feel of the movie, very South Beach, there are still two classic Bollywood numbers, Desi Girl and the one at the end of the credits. I'd give it a 4 out of 5 for the gay theme alone plus all of John Abraham's luscious torso, of which we see a lot.

  Hmm. I know homosexuality was illegal in India when this film was made, but Dostana does smack of a missed opportunity. Although it's quite impressive to have two major alpha male Bollywood stars kiss, there are way too many stereotypes to recommend this film as a breakthrough. The plot itself is ok, especially as the two heroes don't get away with their deception, but Priyanka Chopra doesn't really get past her role as set decoration, and the whole thing is at least 30 mins too long. However, Abhishek Bachchan shows an impressive mastery of comic timing, and his mother Jaya Bachchan (playing his character's mother, too) does an amusing job of a confused Indian mother coming to terms with her son's (fake) homosexuality. Basically, it's entertaining enough, but you can probably afford to fast forward through the songs; they're nothing special.
