No problem, Lloyd. We can be classy and sophistic... Oh check out the funbags on that hosehound.
-HarryPeter and Bobby Farrelly's directorial debut (Bobby isn't actually credited however) set the bar so high for their careers that a dozen films and almost 20 years later they still haven't surpassed their initial outing. I would entertain someone arguing that There's Something About Mary might be better or as good, but that's the only Farrelly film that I would even consider in the same league as the now iconic Dumb and Dumber.
Harry (Jeff Daniels) and Lloyd (Jim Carrey) aren't just funny characters on their own, but their friendship is perfectly written as a realistic guy friendship with the stupidity factor…

Simply put, this is some funny shit.
This is a collection of great gags, and is one of the funniest films ever made.
"According to the map we've only gone 4 inches. " I could quote great lines all night.

"Yeah I called her up. She gave me a bunch of crap about me not listening to her, or something. I don't know, I wasn't really paying attention."

The films that I enjoyed as a kid can now be divided into three exact camps. Those that are actually a bit shit and I'm confused/embarrassed about why I liked them so much in the first place; those that are flawed or cheesy but I still love them regardless due to a twisted sense of nostalgia; and those that genuinely hold up, classic films in their own right.
Dumb and Dumber sits firmly in the latter camp. I really think of it as a comedy masterpiece and one of the great films of the 90s.

When I think of the nineties, and films that I loved as a kid with many thanks directed towards my dad, 'Dumb and Dumber' instantly jumps to mind. Comedy is rarely as hilarious as this.
The 90s is also known for when the Farrelly brothers made funny films, and Jim Carrey was the go-to guy for comedy due to his unflinching enthusiasm - a Carrey that we rarely see these days.
And Carrey is paired with Jeff Daniels who plays the slightly less dumb character (who is still incredibly dumb), an actor who isn't particularly known for starring in comedy films, but he more than stands alongside Carrey and the two end up displaying brilliant chemistry.
But what I love…

This is the king of dumb comedy.
Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels play off each other excellently. The jokes are so dumb that you have to laugh. The key to this film's success is its self-awareness. It knows its stupid, and that's what makes it so funny. It's hilarious and endlessly rewatchable.

I broke my rule of 'I need to see the whole film' But I really didn't need to see this one

I used to love this as a kid, it's a bit too silly for me now but to be fair it's held up pretty well.

I am not going to spend a whole lot of time on this review we all know Dumb and Dumber is a great comedy and one of the greatest of all time. Nearly every scene puts me in stitches and still cracks me up no matter how many times I have seen it. It also doesn't hurt that it is infinitely quotable.
When Dumb and Dumber came out Jim Carrey was a star quick on the rise with Ace Ventura followed by The Mask but Dumb and Dumber put him on a completely different level.
The really surprising thing here is Jeff Daniels who not only keeps up pace with Carrey all throughout the movie but is even funnier at…

I'm amazed at people who critique this by saying "it's really stupid," as if that wasn't the point. But this is a movie so committed to and smart about its stupidity that it works. The Farrellys came out of the gate with confidence here, and Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels throw themselves into their imbecilic characters. Yes, it's extremely dumb. But it's also extremely funny, even nearly 20 years later.

A surprisingly clever road trip film about two morons trying to return ransom money they accidentally pilfered when they mistook a drop-off for someone leaving behind their briefcase. The jokes are crude, annoying, and sometimes mind-bogglingly dumb. Those of my generation consider it a comedy classic though.

The title says it all.
The story of two dumbheads who (again all odds) travel around the country to deliver a briefcase of the woman he fell in love with.
Still some nice plot twists though!A good no-brainer :)
