This is an ambitious invasion flick for a B-Movie on a small budget. The star here is the Ray Harryhausen effects which translate really well from model to integration within the filmed environment. Anyone watching it today would laugh if not watched in the proper context, but I imagine for the time they looked pretty sweet. I'm impressed even today looking at it. As for the story it is the typical "scientist creates weapons to save us" from our doom. It always cracks me up at how amazingly laid back the participants are in the 50s. Cheesy, as all sci-fi films from the era were, but it is a bit more believable than a lot of them.
One of my favorite parts is the huge computer they have translating the alien's language that gives its results by drawing in cursive on a piece of paper.

Ray Harryhausen says this is the least favourite of his work & I can see why, although it is a passable alien invasion movie there's not much to take from a flying tin saucer - but the SFX still look pretty great for their time.

Brilliant 50s sci-fi B movie , now all we need is Invaders from mars and War of the worlds to come out on Blu and that will be one Sunday afternoon taken care of.

This film might be in its sixth decade, but its still better than many modern science fiction efforts.

Started out good, but got pretty hokey halfway in.

Classic 50's Sci-Fi film The designs of the Aliens are simple but great. Harryhausen's saucer effects were brilliant.

You can see how many films were influenced by this movie because there is a lot. It is kind of cheesy now but it is still pretty entertaining.
