It has been a good while since I last watched a modern Italian zombie movie. In fact it has generally been a pretty barren few years for genre cinema in the country which is sad when you consider how great they once were. Whilst Eaters isn’t fit to even be mentioned in the same sentence as the greats of Italian horror it is welcome to see at least something from the region. The film follows two zombie hunters travelling the now desolate cities in order to find undead subjects for their scientist employer.

Started off OK with some fun characters and generally good acting and some great prosthetic effects but pretty soon reveals itself as yet another cheap and aimless zombie flick. Weird plot jumps, side characters that go nowhere (WTF was the point of the Hitler guy?), very inconsistent zombies that alternately walk or run, a disconnected series of almost vignette style scenes and a very small number of onscreen zombies at any time mark this as the work of amateurs or at least very inexperienced filmmakers. Despite that it does have a better than usual quality overall than your standard low budget zombie fare. Credit to the filmmakers though for sticking with Nicotero style prosthetic make up throughout, no panda eyes.…

An OK Italian zombie flick from Uwe Boll's Event Film studio.
Uwe Boll didn't direct it, but presented it and I think produced it.
It's not bad, quite humourous in places, with some rather good ideas. The prosthetic gore is rather good, but some of the CGI is very shoddy.
