Amazing. I couldn't imagine the sequel being as good as the first film, but it is. The reason is that it doesn't try and recreate the first film on any level. The drug lords and corrupt cops are now joined by corrupt politicians and the militia to create a totally different story, but at the same time it feels like a natural progression of the first film.
One last thing, Wagner Moura is damn fantastic as Nascimento yet again.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuck.
I am a big fan of the first film, but was even more blown away by this sequel, which expands its scope into Infernal Affairs-ish politics. There is so much substantive content, all of which builds to a climax, and yet is so easy to follow, that I can only be thoroughly impressed with Padihla's achievement here and heartily continue to highly recommend this franchise to anyone.

#23 in my 'Foreign Films Season' and a recommendation from Thomas Ringdal.
Absolutely brilliant! José Padilha has taken the fantastic first film and improved it layer upon layer and produced an even better sequel. The story delves deeper as the favela drug bosses/cartels kill each other off in order to gain a larger area, leaving the slums to fall to the militia who take complete control. It's not another action movie with no plot, it runs deep into corrupt politics and Colonel Nascimento's troubled personal life while keeping the action pieces terrific and well-paced. Yet again Wagner Moura gives an outstandingly fierce performance as Nascimento, torn between work problems and those he faces with his own son and wife. This is another cracking Brazilian film everyone should see!
Another great recommendation, thanks Thomas.

An excellent film about the corruption in politics and the police force in Rio de Janeiro. Just before the story gets rolling we are told that even though there are similarities to real life, this a a work of fiction. Real or not, this is a tense and gripping movie.... and as the tale unfolds, things get out of hand, very personal (of course), and highly emotionally charged. Great acting, especially from our main man Wagner Moura as Roberto Nascimento, head of the Brazilian version of the States' SWAT.
This movie is HUGE in Brazil... yeah, I'll just bet the rich and powerful people who are fictionally depicted here bought tickets many times over. The first Elite Squad movie was…

What a horrible title for such a great film.
One of my main reasons for liking these types of brazilian movies are how the slums are potrayed. Just like in City of God, they feel very colorful and alive.

Fun action movie that has a great pace and displays the underbelly of Brazil. But there's nothing too surprising or revolutionary in it, not sure what is it about this movie that clicked with so many people, but to me it just seemed a good entertaining movie.

Thrilling from start to finish. Although there is quite a bit of violence and fighting, we get a lot of detail from what happens behind the scenes, which is even more thrilling than the other. As much political and police drama as this is, there is a large portion that is family drama as the colonel must deal with his son and ex-wife and how they relate with each other.

Nice action movie...

Engrossing. Exciting.

Beneath its seething outrage at a broken system, lies a film about corruption. Those who practice it, and the few determined to stand against them. Enthralling.

The Departed meets A History of Violence. In Rio.

Take note Hollywood: This is how you make a sequel.
