A list of all the movies in the order I have watched them throughout the year of 2013.
Enemies of the People
The Khmer Rouge slaughtered nearly two million people in the late 1970s. Yet the Killing Fields of Cambodia remain unexplained. Until now. Enter Thet Sambath, an unassuming, yet cunning, investigative journalist who spends a decade of his life gaining the trust of the men and women who perpetrated the massacres. From the foot soldiers who slit throats to Pol Pot's right-hand man, the notorious Brother Number Two, Sambath records shocking testimony never before seen or heard. Having neglected his own family for years, Sambath's work comes at a price. But his is a personal mission. He lost his parents and his siblings in the Killing Fields. Amidst his journey to discover why his family died, we come to understand for the first time the real story of Cambodia's tragedy.
This documentary is an incredible introspective look into the eyes of a Cambodian reporter who embarks on getting an inside scoop on the Khmer Rouge regime and the killing fields of the time: a tragedy that took the lives of his entire family.
What impressed me the most is the resolve of our real-life hero who still manages to go through his life unassumingly and generously even when charged with interviewing Nuon Chea: the second-in-command of the former Khmer Rouge and a man who basically indirectly killed the people he loved most in the world.
Justice and closure is eventually served in the end which is great since you will be astounded at some of the revolting and disgusting terrors…
