I rented this once years ago, but it was on HBO today so I decided to give it a second chance. It has Ben Stiller and Jack Black who are far less reliable now but gave me pretty regular laughs back in 2004. It has Amy Poehler. It has Christopher Walken. I should have laughed non-stop, but instead I was filled with disappointment by nearly every scene. Walken gave me the only laughs for most of the movie, and he's really the only reason this is getting a full star. There was promise here, but it is just a giant disappointment.

Jack Black and Ben Stiller play friends who fall out over one of them becoming rich after he invents a chemical that can dissolve dog tods called "Vapoorize". Lol. Get it? Cause it has 'poo' in the name. Ahh.

I quite like Ben Stiller in comedies. I'm not a massive fan of his, although Zoolander is pretty fantastic, but he's one of the few American actors who crops up in every other comedy film they make in Hollywood who I can laugh at. I also don't hate Jack Black half as much as some people do.
BUT.
They are really unfunny in this. The closing credits are the two of them on one of those live shopping networks, improv-ing, trying to flog their new product and it's just not funny. The support characters are also utter garbage. Apart from the odd scene, I don't think the film raised much of a smile at all, nevermind a laugh. Avoid.

A stellar cast, but virtually no humor. Incredibly disappointing.

Was Envy supposed to be a comedy? Because I didn't laugh once and I don't recall seeing any comic situations that at least were supposed to be funny.
It is hard to believe that Barry Levinson, the man who made such excellent movies such as Rain Man and Sleepers, is the responsible for making such an extremely awful, filthy and hideous piece of junk such as this. Ben Stiller and Jack Black are two guys that I usually find very funny and their movies are usually quite fun and enjoyable, but while I was watching this I honestly wanted to kill them. But sadly, not only their talents were wasted in this but also Rachel Weisz and Christopher Walken's.…

This could be the worst film for all of the cast involved. Walken is the only highlight. None of it is very funny, Weisz is beyond wasted and where the hell DID all the poop go??????

What a waste of talent.

Envy might have worked for a twenty-two minute episode of Seinfeld or Still Standing, but as a one-hundred minute film it falls flat on its face. This is a boring, drawn-out, long, and agonizing film that just moves at a snail's pace, and doesn't make a strong enough attempt to be funny or creative.
The story follows Tim and Nick, (Stiller and Black) two best friends who work at the same job. Nick is constantly trying to come up with wacky get rich quick schemes, and he is confident that he has got a good one; a spray that makes feces from your dog evaporate into thin air. I'd buy one, and apparently, enough people do to make Nick an…

Envy is one of the worst movies ever made by anyone anywhere anytime.
