  If Black Swan taught us anything, it’s that performing Swan Lake is just a bad idea all round. In Etoile, a young American dancer travels to Budapest for an audition, and is cast in the lead of Black Swan… except, actually, she’s been possessed by the spirit of a long-dead ballerina, her director is possibly a time-traveller/vampire/ghost himself, and if she completes the performance, a swan-god will be summoned to end the world.

  It sounds amazing, and it should’ve been amazing, but the film spends too long on weird irrelevant plot threads - whole scenes are spent watching the dancer’s would-be boyfriend farcically bidding on antique clocks at the bidding of his uncle, who’s trying to trick a wicked old…
