Why the Hell am I just now seeing this? I'm sad that it took a $4 Blu Ray price tag to finally coax me into seeing it. What I got was a great little film that despite its flaws, managed to be an immensely entertaining and atmospheric picture that is full of 90's goodness. For comparisons sake, the film is a combination of the game Dead Space, Michael Crichton's Sphere, Alien and I hear its even got a little bit of Solaris thrown in. The setup to this film is ripe for all kinds of scenarios and just reading the basic synopsis is enough to get your mind racing…

As far as I'm concerned, this director has made only one film and this is it.
This is not so much an all out scary horror film, but more an atmospheric piece. Sure, it has a couple of cheap jump scares, but all in all Event Horizon is a haunted house story with Lovecraftian influences.
It cleverly builds suspense by hinting at extreme horrors in stead of full out showing them. It then proceeds to more psychological horror feeding on the fears of the characters and concludes with a riveting, if somewhat predictable, finale.
Cast, special effects, production design, all just seem to work here in one of my favourite horror/sf genre crossovers.

During the beginning of the film, I found myself waiting for Sigourney Weaver to show up in her high-waisted underwear to fuck shit up! But then I realized, she was probably on the other adventure killing Aliens and being a bad ass bitch.
Event Horizon takes place in the year 2047. A group of astronauts are on a mission to find the missing ship of 7 years, which goes by the name Event Horizon. While aboard this ship, they find the heart, but secrets lie deeper inside this heart, which they soon will find out.
Throughout the film I felt very, very anxious. I heard so many great things about it, and I just wanted to know what the fuck…

I have maintained to this very day that it is something of a minor miracle that Paul WS Anderson, director of shit, more shit and a side order of shit for the last 20 years or so, managed somewhere in the middle of all that to make a film as high quality as Event Horizon.
Or is it? Don't get me wrong, Event Horizon was now, on this fourth viewing, almost as good as when I first saw it. But I can't help but feel on this most recent viewing that this was an almost total fluke. His intention was to borrow liberally from Cameron, Carpenter, Kubrick, Tarkovsky and any other director that had made a sci-fi classic in their…

"I have such wonderful, wonderful things... to show you."
'Event Horizon' a sci-fi horror film that despite the flaws manage to be engaging and frightening, the style and the overall aura of the films is effective to drop us in the middle of this nightmarish tale of future proportions.
The film starts well, setting up the characters and then showing a geography of the rescue ship and the Event Horizon, is like Paul W. S. Anderson set-up the rules, so when the shit hit the fan, you don't feel lost and know where exactly is everyone at any given time, remind me a lot of 80's horror films.
The story itself is engaging, the…

When it comes to Event Horizon, it's either completely reviled or ridiculously overrated but I always found myself right smack in the middle. It's definitely not a great film but it's a gorgeously realised film and agree or not, this film defined Paul WS Anderson's career.
With Anderson, he's a visually excellent director, even in his poorest of films. For example, the risible Alien Vs. Predator opens with a magnificent shot that looks a shadow of an alien queen but morphs into a satellite passing over the Earth. It's a showstopper before the film begins but as it progresses the film flounders in mediocrity. And, this is the case with Event Horizon but just not as bad as AVP.

Starting to watch a movie with low expectations is awesome! You can get surprised. If the movie sucks, well you kinda new... but when it manages to deliver something awesome... waauw!
Well Event Horizon really has its moments. There are some really bad and predictable scenes, but at overall it proved to be suspenseful and solid. I like Sci-fi, I like horror, and this is very good crossover! Not as good as Alien but it's worthy to watch and enjoyable especially for lovers of the genre.

I was pleasantly surprised by this sci-fi thriller. This film looks amazing in HD. Kind of a Prometheus / Sunshine mash up.

Had potential but quickly went downhill as it turned into an unnecessary gore fest.

Is it pronounced "stasis" or "stasis"? Make up your damn mind!
