Yawn.

It's not shit.
But it's too ridiculous, and due to this, it finds itself too far detached from the recent superhero movie output.
BUT...
It's great characters, even despite the poor acting from Hornblower and Captain America, make this movie great. The Silver Surfer is one of THE great comic book characters. It also has an great foe. A superhero movie is only as good as its villain at the end of the day.
It does enough to entertain me. Maybe I am easily pleased?...

I am generally a fan of the Fantastic Four and although both films are disappointing, I prefer this sequel to the original one. The Surfer makes a nice addition to Chiklis and Evans but Gruffud and Alba are still miscast.

Tagline: Rise.
With a movie about a comic, and a tagline like "rise" you know not to expect too much, and the movie does not disapoint :-) Visually it's a feast, the over-acting is as you would expect it to be, and in this genre that's ok. There is some humour in there, and there is some deep thinking about always having a choice. Other than that this is a nice popcorn movie.

Norrin Rad is one of my favorites. The movie did not do him nor the Devourer of Planets justice but I always thought the back and forth banter between The Human Torch and The Thing translated well in these movies.

The first Fantastic Four was pretty bad. The writing bad, the casting horrible, the FX lacking… but it was harmless enough. There have been crappy superhero movies before, and there will certainly be plenty more in the future. But a sequel?? Really?? What won't they make sequels to these days.
They learned nothing from their mistakes on the first film. The Thing's costume is still terrible and looks like something out of a mid-80's flick, and his one-liners (mostly consisting of about 10 "sorry's" and "my bad's") are just annoying. Julian Glover as Dr. Doom is horribly miscast. Reed's stretching effects just look laughable - it's one of those powers that just does not translate to the screen well. Jessica…

Gave it a couple more stars for Doug Jones as the Surfer, but had to take them back on account of Jessica Alba's soul-stealing ghost eyes from hell.

It took me quite a few sittings to get through this movie. The first half really drags on, and the last half hour is only partly interesting. I think the casting and effects are good, but it's the poor writing that brings this flick down. I've become quite a big fan of the Fantastic Four from the great comics to come out the last few years, and this film amazingly didn't seem interested in tapping into the vast resources of the comics history for it's plot. Most of the movie is taken up by sitcom-like banter and camera work. They didn't even show Galactus. What a revolting development. The first movie was better, and I'm looking forward to the coming reboot.

Part of the:
Ultimate Marvel Movie Marathon
This is actually quite a bit better than the first movie.
Putting the Silver Surfer at the forefront of the marketing campaign, having an entire teaser trailer dedicated to that exciting chase sequence between the human torch and the surfer, it all combined to effectively market a Fantastic Four movie without the Fantastic Four. And it almost worked...
Despite lower box office returns, the CGI, the story, the action and the entertainment are all better here than in the first. It helps that we've already had 90 minutes to get used to the characters, it also helps that the style and tone of the series has been firmly established. This is truly a…

Good special effects, the always hot alba, some good acting all blend together to make a decent film here. Though, like the first, it's far from fantastic. But it's worth the viewing.
