There are two major things wrong with this movie.
1. It is a duller than dull. I mean, I just watched this movie and I couldn't recount anything that happened in the film. There isn't a single memorable action scene or moment in the entire film.
2. The cg effects work, especially during the tunnel sequences, is horrendous
Now, I didn't hate this movie as much as I did when I saw it in the theater, but I do think it is easily the worst film in the series. The whole revenge thing with Dom's character simply doesn't work, as it is in no way interesting. Dom is already an uninteresting character in the first place, but give him a one track mind, and he becomes nothing more than a robot. I give this movie props for cementing the series cred by bringing everyone back, but that's about all that I give to this movie.

Part of Dastardly Difficult December: film nr.12
I applaud myself for finishing this. I'm so proud.
I watched the first film when it came out and decided there and then that the whole pimped car street race genre really wasn't for me. I like Diesel and Walker well enough, but that film, though decently made, couldn't entertain me at all.
I naturally decided to skip all the sequels until I stumbled upon this on TV this night and allowed myself to be lured into the convenience of a quick movie fix. I shan't be doing that any time soon again.
I didn't miss anything in the other sequels I guess as this sort of directly connects to the first one.…

This is easily one of the worst movies ever made. Everything about it is of the poorest quality imaginable.
Justin Lin's directing and his cinematography choices are crimes worthy of prison time. The film looks awful. It sounds awful, too. The acting is terrible even by Fast & Furious standards. The dialogue is embarrassingly pathetic and makes worthless trash like CSI: Miami look like Billy Wilder's finest hour by comparison. The story is stupid and lazy and not creative or interesting or different or entertaining at any point whatsoever. The 1996 special effects are neither special nor effective.
The fact that the legitimately fun Fast Five was made by the same writer and same director blows my mind more than the depths of quantum mechanics. That is a film where you can tell the people behind it gave a shit. This, however, is nothing more than an insult.

While Fast and Furious is certainly not a great film by any means (it's a little hard to say it's even good), it is my favorite one since the original (that doesn't include the fifth one). Sure it's got many problems, there's a bit too many dramatic scenes this time around especially when you have actors that aren't particuarly good or have much dramatic chops, and there's a good portion in the movie where there's hardly any action, and it really starts to drag. But, where the movie shines are the action sequences, especially with the opening truck sequences which is just about on the same level as the truck action sequence in the first movie, the race scenes, and…

"Only pussies run nitro-meth."
Fast and Furious should be remember for bringing back most of the cast from The Fast and the Furious, but no, it will be remember for horrible CGI car chases.
With that said, I was glad to see the all gang back together again and watching the interaction between Diesel and Walker fell right, like comfort food.
The story, well, is as simple as they come, no surprise, the plot has never been a forte in the franchise or the acting for that matter.
One of my biggest complains is the lack of momentum in the film, we have all the original characters but director Justin Lin instead of bring back the fun from Tokyo Drift…

Not as bad as what people make it out to be.

It was... mixed. The plot (or whatever fragments of one) was convoluted, the tension was virtually non-existent, the whole thing felt inconsequential, and it didn't have a purpose. But that wasn't the point of the film. It was to make cars go boom, and it did that as well as it could. 3/5

After the disappointing The Fast and The Furious: Tokyo Drift, Justin Lin returns to direct the fourth installment and this time he does it just right because he brings the franchise back it's roots by brining back the original cast members from the first installment. I think the first Fast and Furious movie was a great movie with characters that I care about and now that they brought back those characters it makes another very good movie. The problem I had with the previous two installments (2 Fast 2 Furious and Tokyo Drift) was that the stories didn't interest me as much as the original; but, this time around writer Chris Morgan does a very good job at telling a…

It is remarkable how unexciting and lacking in energy this film is. The CGI heavy race sequences are bland and boring. It blows my mind that the same writer managed to pull Fast Five out, because that film is the exact opposite of this.
The only good thing about this is the night-time city race about halfway through. It is the only sequence not reliant on CGI. It is also the only scene where Lin's usually compentent eye for action shines through.

Wait, even among those who realize the appeal of this franchise, this is the most reviled installment? ...Why?
The best in the series up to this point. LA race is really fun, opening heist is a blast. Chemistry between Brian and Dom is improved over 1. It is unfortunate that you don't really get the ensemble feel of the other films, kept pretty small. HAN THOUGH.
It does fit a crime thriller template uniformly. And I guess that prompted people to disengage completely. Well worth watching for the balletic action and banter, however.

After veering from the path, the original crew is back together for the first TRUE sequel in the series.
This is the beginning of the evolution to this movie franchise. You can start to see where they were headed in the 5th and upcoming 6th film in the series right here. They began to move away from the street racing and started to focus on the bullets.
Overall this isn't a bad thing, because I don't think a franchise about street racing could survive seven or more sequel and still be entertaining.
One thing that does disappoint about this movie is the audio track on the Blu-ray disc. After watching the first, and being blown out of my seat, there…

It turns out I didn't really need to see this movie. Reminds me that I'm not actually a fan of this franchise. What I can say is that I can see the beginnings here of what would turn into Fast Five. If this movie being a hit was necessary for Justin Lin to take this series where it is now, I guess that's fine.

If I didn't watch this with Rifftrax, I probably would have fallen asleep. Not quite enough action to make up for all the characters in the film being dull and uninteresting. The action scenes that are present are pretty terrific, including the opening and the fun chase at the end that is basically rips off the mine-cart scene at the end of Temple Of Doom.
