There are glimpses of four or five interesting movies somewhere in here, the best of which involves a young woman embracing sexual agency from her own perspective and on her own terms. But in general this feels like a battle between a director smarter than the material and a screenwriter much dumber. Crowe blows.

Oh hey there, nostalgia.
Hilarious teen drama from the early 80s focusing on a group of students who struggle with the common pressures of high school - success, acceptance, sexuality, etc. So many familiar faces that are so young; Sean Penn, Judge Reinhold, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Phoebe Cates, Nicolas Cage, and Forest Whitaker, just to name a few.
There's also a pool scene involving the beautiful Phoebe Cates. I'm sure you remember it, or have at least heard of it. And if not, I'm sure you're interested.
Backed by an awesome soundtrack (the Go-Go's, Tom Petty, Led Zeppelin, and Stevie Nicks all come to mind), this movie is a bunch of fun, and just may be one of my favorites from the 80s.
Did I mention Phoebe Cates is in it?

NOTE: Don't watch this while tripping on shrooms.

Good performances all around and a rocking soundtrack. For a Cage fan such as myself there was a shocking lack of him here.

Film 51 of The December Project
Another one of these films, like No Sex Please, We're British which I used to see in the TV listings when I was a kid, think it looked fun and meant to watch as soon as I was old enough to get away with it... but instead it took nearly an extra twenty years on top of that.
It's fun and whilst it contains a lot of similar storylines to 90's American high school movies, it ambles along through the school year more like a TV series than a film, doesn't have neon signs to plot points, doesn't turn absolutely everything into a moral lesson and ends up a lot less cheesy. Amy Heckerling…

Fast Times At Ridgemont High is one of those "classic" comedies that I've been meaning to check off of my To Do list for a while now. The first thing I was drawn to was the music, which sets the mood and establishes the time period so well. The cast were all great and the famous nude scene (perhaps the most famous nude scene?) didn't disappoint. I can't think of much to say about Fast Times other than it's one of those rare examples of an older comedy that manages to live up to the hype.

3. Judge Reinhold being so Reinhold
4. Awesome soundtrack
5. Forest Whitaker, duuuude!
6. Is this the Mr. Hand origin story!?
7. Jennifer Jason Leigh - hot christ!
8. Phoebe Cates - extremely hot christ!
9. Where's Nicolas Cage? - hint: he's listed as Nicolas Coppola! -
There's a lot of truth masked in silliness in this movie. It makes me yearn for the the arcades and tiny mall movie theatres of my youth...sigh...

Like my previous review for Top Gun I remember watching Fast Times At Ridgemont High on TV when I was younger. I don't remember liking it then, but it's probably cause I didn't really understand what was going on. It was a different era, with different humor tastes and references. I watched this again to jog my memory on what I had lazily watched as a kid. I kinda enjoyed myself. This is definitely not your typical teen movie you'd see nowadays. A lot of the humor is more grounded and "real" as well a dry, the story is pretty good as well. If you're looking for a Not Another Teen Movie or Mean Girls type movie this could be…
