Synopsis
THREE OF THE BIGGEST IN ONE OF THE BEST!
Tony and Felix own a tramp boat, and sail around the Caribbean doing odd jobs and drinking a lot. They agree to ferry the beautiful but passportless Irena to another island. They both fall for her, leading to betrayal and a break-up of their partnership. Tony takes a job on a cargo ship. After a collision he finds himself trapped below deck with time running out (the ship is aflame), and only Felix, whom he hates and has sworn to kill, left to save him.

Wow, where do you begin? In 1957 Rita Hayworth had moved beyond her prime years. I think she is more famous for her looks than her acting, and when the looks start to fade... The movie is about 2 roughneck sailors who smuggle this woman into Brazil. Of course they both fall in love with her and these leads to the demise of their friendship. Pretty standard stuff.
I have to mentions the racial unevenness in this film. The black and Brazilian people in this film are shown as little more that native savages that love to drink rum and dance. It was uncomfortable. Then when Rita dances a native tribal type dance I felt decades of race relation going…
