Foo Fighters: Back and Forth
2011 Directed by James Moll
Synopsis
FOO FIGHTERS BACK AND FORTH chronicles the 16 year history of the Foo Fighters: from the band's very first songs created as cassette demos Dave Grohl recorded during his tenure as Nirvana's drummer, through its ascent to their Grammy-winning, multi-platinum, arena and stadium headlining status as one of the biggest rock bands on the planet.

I'm not a big muso, or the Foo Fighter's ultimate No.1 fan...but this was a stellar watch.
Far from dry, this doco really gives you a true insight into the band, from Dave Grohl's beginnings (i.e. Nirvana's demise) to what the Foos are today. And when I say true insight - I mean it. You are hearing all the brutal comments from the band members and seeing their reactions...nothing is left unsaid and all their dirty laundry is laid bare! The doco is rich in footage and photos so you feel like you're almost part of the journey as opposed to just seeing some talking heads natter on. -
With more than enough band tales and some brutally honest interviews I'd say this is certainly one for Rock music fans and aspiring musicians. A brilliant biography that spans the life (So far) of a great American band or maybe more importantly one very talented and driven musician, Dave Grohl whose career credentials are surely amongst Rocks greatest?

I disagree with a lot of the shitty reviews already made about this film. I loved it, great insight into what the band members are really like. The Nirvana bit at the beginning was great as well.

Billed as a document of the past 16 years of a band, but felt much more like an extended promotional tool to launch their latest album. The only real surprise is how shameless Dave Grohl is about re-recording album drum tracks without their actual drummer knowing. To discover that the 'nicest guy in rock' is actually a bit of a dick wasn't a big enough revelation to spice up a rather pedestrian history.

This review reportedly contains spoilers. I can handle the truth.

Truly enjoyed the perspective view on Foo Fighters. In particular the issue with the guitar players and the Songs for the Deaf era of Dave touring with QOTSA. Dayum.

I’ve had a few favorite bands throughout my life. But, if I had to pick one that consistently sat at or near the top of my list, it would be the Foo Fighters.
Dave Grohl and co. just know how to make great, solid rock and roll. Combine that with their punk rock and grunge lineage, and you’ve got a perfect sound of noise.
FOO FIGHTERS: BACK AND FORTH is the documentary that chronicles the band from before it even started, when Dave and Pat Smear were still in Nirvana, through all of its albums, up to the recording of their most recent (and in my opinion best) effort, Wasting Light.
Through exclusive sit-down interviews, live performance footage, and inside access to the recording of the newest album, Back and Forth paints an amazing picture of what could be the last great American rock band.

What a great band.

A great look at a great band. The stuff on Kurt's death was very hard to watch, but I had a huge smile on my face watching Krist Novoselic recording on the latest album. The last few albums are kind of breezed over, but hey, the story is told completely. Dave Grohl seems like a pretty cool guy and I want to be his friend. Ah, actual ROCK music. How it's hard to find anymore.

A super size 'VH1 Behind the Music', a good doc for fans of Foo Fighters and Nirvana.

I was hoping for a good live footage and maybe Dave Grohl fucking around behind the scenes but I didn't get either really. All the was left was the band member petty bickering.
