"Gemma, noooo!" - Nigel Honeycutt
So many paychecks were cashed in with this movie. Donald Sutherland, Kate Hudson, Kevin Hart and, of course, Matthew McConaughey. Pre-McConaissance, it was a dark, dark time for the Texan acting powerhouse we know and love now. Like Atlas but if Atlas had rickets, he tries so hard to hold up Fool's Gold, but he simply can't as this derivative twaddle sputters towards its inevitable, cloying conclusion.
Andy Tennant's one-note filmography isn't exactly a calling card for creativity in this, but even by its own standards, it's amazingly dull. Taking a Romancing The Stone-style plot and surgically removing any narrative flare, it's a slog. Take the 'Token Exposition Scene'. It takes place 43 minutes into…
This is not particularly great, but I have a soft spot for romantic films with a sense of adventure like Romancing the Stone and Six Days, Seven Nights ... those were the first two examples that came to my mind for whatever reason. And I think Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson have a good on screen rapport.
yeahhh McConaughey TAKE YOUR SHIRT OFF wooo!
..but no seriously this film is terrible.
Call me crazy, but I think this film is a hoot!
It's adventurous, exciting, has great humor, and is a perfect candidate to kill a few hours when all you want to do is sit in a sofa, munching pop corn.
I'm entertained by this.
I'd say that's pretty much mission:accomplished by Andy Tennant
I stupidly got Kate Upton and Kate Hudson mixed up so spent most of the film arguing with the wife.
Thinking about it, I might need to watch this one again.
Your uselessness is epic.
Tess' Attorney: Florida didn't ruin your life, you did. You married the guy for sex, then expected him to be smart.
HAPPY 4TH O' JULY!!
Well, kind-of. Ok not really. I guess early McConaughey is nothin to be celebratin too mucho.
fun to watch. The story of finding the gold was good. Was a good story about buried treasure.
i can't believe after a 5 year gap in their movie relationship...they give me this...
The relationship of a divorcing couple is rekindled when they share the search for a lost treasure. Instantly forgettable adventurous fluff has attractive leads and spectacular location shooting: lots of glitter, but the title pretty much sums it up.
Seems like there's a fair number of haters for this tale of high sea adventure, lost treasure, and the rekindling of a romance that's gone sour. But it really isn't terrible. I actually find it fun. Reminded me of the Harrison Ford adventure, Six Days Seven Nights. Hudson and McCono are the likable squabbling pair, Tess and Finn, in search of the lost Spanish treasure known as the Queens Dowry. Dziena is quite fetching in her red and white sailor's outfit playing the ditzy daughter of rich daddy Donald Sutherland. Ray Winstone as the stodgy rival treasure seeker and Kevin Hart as Bigg Bunny, the local island crime lord, round out the cast.
A few details could have been done…
Once upon a time before Matthew McConaughey became an Oscar winning actor and only starred in serious, emotional films, he was the ideal star to whip his body out and flirt with the ladies in his now long forgotten past as the king of Rom-Com. During this period, he had a list of features that he always had to incorporate into his character, including: remaining half-naked throughout, being the slacker and managing to get the girl in the end through unfortunate events. Yes, the plots all have the same routine yet the real reason these films were watched was because McConaughey was the star with the power to attract no matter how bad the films got. His films had no…
These are films that I've seen over the years that I've either liked or loved, but A LOT of people…
