A solid black comedy/coming of age tale featuring some very good performances from the child actors. The plot is fairly limited, with it essentially focusing on the misadventures of a group of middle school children, but aside from the gun part I think it's a fairly accurate depiction of the kind of stupid shit that kids get into. Once you get past all the forced vulgarity coming from the leads, it's a pretty enjoyable movie and they all still work well together. Also, I guess I'll be the first to say it, but it's kind of unrealistic. It has its problems, but I liked it.

No doubt, this movie does a fantastic job of capturing that important transitional time in childhood from being a boy to being a teenager, but more importantly, it struck a chord with my 14-year-old self that I tend to forget about the older I grow.
And for a movie that may not be original in terms of its cinematic prowess, its ability to serve as an exceptional example of what it’s like to walk out of a theatre knowing I’ve just come as close as I may ever come to transcending space and time without a literal time machine is quite an achievement.

More honest than a lot of films about adolescents unfortunately it is also extremely predictable and doesn't add anything new to the genre.

An enjoyable enough coming-of-age movie, although it does have its moments when the crass, foul-mouthed kids it features are more annoying than amusing or endearing.

Frequently hilarious and affectingly sweet. Cracking performances from the children involved as well.
