I'm not sure I could have stood being in the audience for You Are All Diseased. Knowing Carlin's history of heart problems and bearing in mind that this is his most sustained routine of anger to date, you can almost hear his blood pressure rising from the get-go.
We still appreciate the sacrifice, George, we really do. Another great display from the great man, and arguably his most playful to date as well as he really challenges the audience to try and work out whether he is being serious or not about some of the material he's using, especially as regards children. You don't normally have to work hard with Carlin, but this was a pleasant change of tack.
Plus, whether he did or not, I totally choose to believe that he swam in raw sewage as a kid.

One of Carlin's angrier HBO specials (and that's saying something).

Carlin's 10th HBO Special
He's really angry in this one, but as always, speaking the harsh truth.

The best of the four Carlin specials I watched in the last week (Playin' With Your Head, What Am I Doing In New Jersey?, and Back in Town being the others), 'YAAD' cuts down on the political overkill of 'Back in Town', eliminates all the goofiness of 'PWYH' and 'WAIDINJ', and offers enough variation that for every bit that doesn't land, there are two that do. It's not perfect ('TV Tonight' is a waste of time, as are a few other bits), but offers perhaps the best glimpse of this era of Carlin's stand-up.

This deserves 5 stars purely for his 10 commandments routine.

Still amazing after all these years. Some stuff is a little dated, but most of Carlin's angry rants are still hilarious and massively relevant.
