Reviews of Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance 2011

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance is the best comic-book adaptation ever made. The brilliant hands-on auteur pairing of Neveldine/Taylor continue their streak of incredible films by doing the impossible: making a good comic-book movie.
Sure, there have been good films that are based on comics, such as The Dark Knight and Spiderman 2, but those aren't comic-book movies. The problem with a director like Christopher Nolan (and to a lesser extent, Sam Raimi or Bryan Singer), is that they want…

The original Ghost Rider movie was shoddily made, anemic and, most importantly, incredibly dull yet there should be something cinematic about the comic book character. The prospect of Neveldine and Taylor, the directors responsible for the wonderfully over the top Crank series, seemed like a perfect fit for our flame skulled anti-hero, so what went so horribly wrong?
Well if Neveldine and Taylor’s involvement in non-Crank films is anything to go by they struggle when they aren’t coming up with…

It's better than the first, but that isn't really saying much. The effects are still terrible. The story is even more muddled, contrived and all over the place. Nic Cage still isn't used to his full insane potential. There's some decent action. It's cool seeing Idris Elba, one of my favorite actors, in this but he's honestly been in and deserves a lot better. All in all, it's still a pretty shit film with just does a few things better…

There is a kind of pleasant insanity to this film that makes it a bit better than the rather bland first one, but this still is by no means a Ghost Rider film.
I used to collect comics and one of my favourites was the Ghost Rider comic. Ghost Rider is a bleak, depressing and inhuman superhero without any kind of empathy. Its human host suffers from this as well but embraces it and tries to inject some humanity into…

Doesn't even remotely deserve the kicking its been getting.
Yes, there are problems, where the fuck $75 million went on this film is anyone's guess, much of it seemingly taking place in a quarry with very few actors, and the screenplay is very ordinary but.. this is Neveldine/Taylor shooting a comic book movie which results in a rather unrelenting feel to the action (especially in a 12a), a kinectic visual style which has enough flashes of their Crank films to…

Film #33 of No Rewatch November
Damn, this was some kind of bad. I was expecting more of the delightful energy Neveldine & Taylor brought in Crank, but after hating Gamer so much I guess I should have known better. The style of the film and almost every visual trick feels as if the directors thought this was the coolest fucking thing in the world. It's not. There are flashes of something inspired, but it disappears almost instantly.
The story is…

Much like the titular character in question, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance is completely unhinged and insane. Taking itself places without giving a single fuck about how it gets there or even knowing what it's really going to do once it finally arrives. The film is painfully aware of how stupid it is and capitalizes heavily on it's own silliness. There's not a hint of shame in this roaring blaze of fiery nonsense, it's not trying to be anything more…

Good Lord, Save yourself 95 minutes of life!! Nic Cage what happened to you man? I know you need work...I know this, but please brother read the script BEFORE you commit. I thought the first Ghost Rider was bad but at least it was entertaining. THIS steaming load however was poorly written, corny as shit, with no redeeming qualities whatsoever.
